Mayne is an alternative rap artist based in Maryland. Born Jamel Swain in Mississippi, Mayne grew up in a single-parent household. This was a tough time for him, but he was determined to get through. He later joined the Marine Corps but ultimately decided to pursue a career in music.
Mayne has taken the opposite direction in a genre that is more often associated with violence and the pursuit of riches.
