Alcatraz East Crime Museum, located in Pigeon Forge, is putting repeal day and anniversary in the spotlight.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (November 15, 2022) – In December 1933, the 21stAmendment to the Constitution was ratified, ending the prohibition of alcohol. Alcatraz East Crime Museum will celebrate the repeal of prohibition and the museum’s 6th anniversary this December. The celebration will give guests a unique look at a temporary exhibit on the topic. The repeal day celebration will take place December 2-4, 2022, from 5 pm to close. Guests who attend in roaring 20s attire will receive a buy one, get one free admission.

“Most adults enjoy an alcoholic beverage every once in a while, so this event has a wide appeal,” says Ally Pennington, artifacts and programs manager for Alcatraz East Crime Museum. “It’s difficult to imagine living in a time of prohibition now, so it’s great to look back on it and learn more about its impact.”

The temporary exhibit on prohibition includes images, the history of the era, and artifacts. Unique items that will be featured are a 1921 hidden book flask, Al Capone’s Lexington Hotel Doorknobs, and a 1927 whiskey prescription. The exhibit will run from December 1, 2022, through February 1, 2023, and will be included with all general admission tickets.

The repeal day celebration event will take place from December 2-4, 2022, from 5 pm to close and feature prohibition trivia games, a free shooting gallery, prizes, souvenir mugshots, and a free digital photo for anyone dressed in roaring 20’s attire.

“This is going to be a fun time that you don’t want to miss,” adds Pennington. “Stop in and check it out, and be sure to dress up in some 20’s attire to get BOGO admission!”

According to Gallup, 60% of U.S. adults report drinking alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, and liquor. That is down from 65% in 2019 and 67% in 2010. They report that the highest consumption of alcohol was from 1976-1978. In the U.S., the most popular alcohol consumed is beer (39%), followed by wine (31%) and liquor (27%). The legal drinking age in the country has been 21 since 1984.

The museum has over 100 temporary and permanent exhibits about crime in the country. The museum features information and artifacts about the history of crime, crime scene investigation, consequences of crime, crime-fighting, counterfeit crimes, pop culture, and more. There are numerous popular items on display for people to see, including the famous white Bronco from the O.J. Simpson chase and Ted Bundy’s famous Beetle.

Alcatraz East Crime Museum has updated its board of crime experts, which includes Derwin Bradley, a retired master police officer, James R. Knight, a crime writer, Robin Maynard, a certified crime scene investigator in Florida, Derek Newport, a law enforcement veteran who was with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for 20 years, and Judge Belvin Perry, Jr., who presided in the notorious case against Casey Anthony, among others.
