An interview with the model and swimmer Andreea Dragoi about the career.
What exactly do you do for a career?
In terms of my career I ll say it’s quite diverse. I’m currently studying psychology and kinesiology at San Jose State University meanwhile pursuing various roles in modeling, influencing, acting, and pageantry. I also work as a host for the media company The Ballout and assist with editing. And I almost forgot about my part time job on campus as a lifeguard.
What was the process for you to find what you wanted to do?
Finding my career path was a journey of embracing fear and taking risks. I learned to trust my instincts and make decisions that felt right, even if they seemed daunting at first. Moving abroad alone was a pivotal moment for me, helping me rediscover my true passions and aspirations and then never stopping chasing them.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my career is undoubtedly the opportunity to inspire others and make a positive impact. Whether it’s through my achievements in swimming, modeling on prestigious runways, or using my title to advocate for important causes, knowing that I can make a difference in the lives of others brings me immense joy and fulfillment.
Can you tell us about your job?
My job is multifaceted and exciting, encompassing a wide range of activities from swim practices and competitions to glamorous photoshoots and pageant appearances. Each day is very different and it presents new challenges and opportunities for growth, allowing me to continuously push myself and expand my horizons.
What is your greatest success so far?
Each milestone, whether it’s winning a pageant title or landing a modeling gig, has been incredibly fulfilling in its own right.
Winning the title of Miss US Nation Ambassador and Miss California US Nation have been one of the greatest successes of my career so far. As well as booking my first Miami Swim week shows, NYFW and LA Swim Week earlier this year. It’s not just about the crown and the accolades, but the platform it provided me to amplify my voice and advocate for positive change. Using my title to promote better education programs and create a better community across the world aligns perfectly with my values and aspirations.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Bucharest, Romania, where I developed my love for swimming and discovered my passion for modeling. Moving to the States for college has brought up new opportunities and challenges that have shaped me into the person I am today.
What are some of the challenges you faced along the way?
Along the way, I’ve faced numerous challenges and obstacles, from balancing academics with athletics to overcoming cultural differences, criticism, and doubts about my suitability for my craft. But each challenge has only made me stronger and more determined to succeed.
What does it take to be a successful Swimmer and Model?
To be successful as a swimmer and model, it takes discipline, determination, and a strong belief in oneself. Both fields require hard work and resilience, but the rewards are worth it. It’s important to stay focused on your goals, have a positive and strong mindset, never give up, and always believe in your abilities.
What advice would you give to a young Swimmer and Model?
To remember that success looks different for everyone, so stay true to your dreams and never give up. With determination and perseverance, anything is possible.
To young swimmers aspiring to reach the elite level and qualify for the Olympics, my advice is to set clear goals, commit to consistent training, seek expert coaching, focus on technique, embrace competition, stay mentally tough, learn from failure, stay inspired, and above all, enjoy the journey. Becoming an elite swimmer requires dedication, resilience, and a passion for the sport, but with hard work and perseverance, achieving your Olympic dreams is within reach.

Who is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is my mom, who has always supported and encouraged me to chase my dreams. Her unwavering belief in me has been my guiding light, and I strive to make her proud every day.
