What problem does the product solve?
We make it easy for customers to do something positive in the marketplace without spending much money. Big companies usually focus on big-ticket items, and sustainability has followed this track. The focus is on higher-priced items like shoes, outerwear, denim, etc. We saw an opportunity in reasonably priced daily basics, positively make them, and allow customers access for under $20.
How can this transform the world or our day-to-day lives?
The honest answer is we will not save the planet with clothes. We firmly believe that we must make better choices in the materials we use and how they are made. Commerce will continue, but we can lower our impacts. Socks and basics for Arvin Goods is as much a consumer education tool as it is a fun product. If we can get people to realize what kind of impact can be made with a simple item like socks or t-shirts, then imagine what they can do with other purchasing decisions.
Dustin Winegardner and Harry Fricker Entrepreneur
Tell us about the founder. What is their background?
The company was co-founded by Dustin Winegardner and Harry Fricker. Winegardner had an extensive background in product development and supply chain management with sustainable materials. Fricker was a visual creator in photography and had created multiple brand identities in the apparel and outdoor space. They are a great combination of the left brain and right brain. Winegardner humbly explains it, “Everything you see as Arvin Goods is Harry’s work, and the backend is Dustin’s work.”
How did they come up with the idea?
Dustin has been in the brand and retail product business for years. He was already producing socks for other companies and was exposed to some of these materials as better options. Over time he saw an opportunity that others were not taking advantage of. Already having the suppliers and materials made it very easy to get Arvin Goods off the ground logistically. After meeting Harry, the two worked together to bring the brand to market.

What do customers love most about the product?
“Soft” and “So comfortable” are two common comments we get. We set out to make a statement about product manufacturing and choices, and we were using unproven materials in socks. We did not set out thinking we were creating a superior product. The customer’s reaction and the positive feedback on our products have been one of the most satisfying parts of this journey.
