OmriOpari was one of the heroes that spared Apple from such a devastating loss. He was the first to detect a serious infection in Apple’s system and disclose it to higher authorities, allowing them to respond quickly. He then visited Apple and Best Buy stores to investigate if the problem was limited to his laptop or if other devices were impacted as well. He was surprised to see that entire devices and gadgets had the same owl. He went to Reddit to look for it, but nothing came up. This was when he realized it was a major situation and that he needed to notify Apple’s higher-ups. On September 13th, 2021, he received a Google Alert on his phone informing him that Apple goods were infected with malware, which has infected about 1 billion devices. It was the work of the NSO Group, the makers of the Pegasus Spyware that had been spreading. Omri examined the phones of his friends and family to see whether they had been affected, and like everyone else, they were.
Action Plan
When Omri saw this, he realized he didn’t have any screenshots to verify he’d seen this, but luckily, his old iPhone 8 hadn’t been upgraded, so he retrieved it to bring the owl to light. He photoshopped it and produced three duplicates so he could show the world what he saw when the owl first appeared on his screen. This is how he came up with the term “The Face of Empathy,” which was inspired by Athena, the goddess of knowledge.
Today, he is on a mission to warn the world that even the most secure operating systems can be compromised and that people should be extremely cautious with their gadgets. Even Apple experts should take extra precautions by paying great attention to detail so that such a significant virus does not infect the system again. However, it is a good indicator that Apple addressed the issue promptly rather than delaying and alarming the public.
