What is the “Founder story”?
Cariona was founded by Kathleen Urena, who came from a humble family in the Philippines. She grew up in a conservative household where talking about menstruation is considered taboo. Because of this, she had to explore period solutions by herself and had to deal with uncomfortable rashes and chafing from different menstrual products. This encouraged her to find a modern-day solution while saving the planet. She’s on a mission to destigmatize menstruation and uses Cariona as a support system for all women.
How did you come up with the idea?
Kathleen had been experiencing period rashes that caused her to be unable to function daily. After 24 years, she had enough and spoke to her mother about the issue. She found out that her mom used homemade cloth pads for herself and cloth diapers for all of her children because she could not afford disposables. From here, the idea of Cariona was first born.
