David Delisle on The Golden Quest Exclusive Interview

Why is this subject, “The Golden Quest,” important in the world?

Money is often the #1 cause of stress and divorce, and still, financial literacy is rarely taught. And even when it is taught, the focus is almost always on how to have MORE. This conditioning creates a mindset of lack and desire and puts most of us into an endless cycle of consumerism with the belief that if we only had more, we would be happy. However, studies have proven to us that this simply isn’t true. I emphasize WHY you want money in the first place so that we can change this conditioning and create a mindset of gratitude, empowerment, and fulfillment.

What is the pressing issue right and how are you addressing it?

The biggest issue is the extreme influence that social media is having on our kids in terms of desire and chasing more. We don’t even question whether we’d be happier with more. We simply assume that we would. And this creates a massive ripple effect in how we feel and define ourselves, including stress, lack, envy, jealousy, unhappiness, low self-worth, competition, etc. The list of negative feelings caused by the false image that happiness is linked to a misleading vision of wealth simply goes on and on.

David Delisle Biography

What is your background in this subject?

I’ve always been a money nerd and began reading finance books and investing when I was 11. In my early 20s, I began investing in real estate and retired by age 40. For a period of time, I was also a financial advisor and found myself regularly educating my clients on macroeconomics and emerging trends.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I have a strong sense of curiosity and adventure that has created many aspects of myself. Often, people will interact with only one aspect and create a perception of my identity based on this, not realizing that the opposite is often also true. For example, I’m very analytical and science-based AND I’m also very spiritual. I love nature & the outdoors, AND I love the noise & culture of a city. I love big crowds and also love the intimacy of a smaller group.

What are your passions outside of your career?

Teaching children really is my passion. I absolutely love seeing their excitement and enthusiasm. And every time I hear from a child who perceives the world a little differently based on my book, that completely fills my bucket.

Are there any social causes that you believe in and support?

Personally, I really love the Against Malaria Foundation. All of the proceeds go towards mosquito nets, which are known to have the highest dollar-for-dollar impact on saving lives.

Through my book, I support GiveDirectly, the first and largest nonprofit that lets donors send money directly to the world’s poorest to spend on medicine, school fees, water, solar lights, businesses to generate income, and more. I love how aligned this charity is with my message of “Give, and you’ll have more.”

What is next for you?

This year, I’m looking for more speaking opportunities so that I can share my message about money mindfulness and The Awesome Stuff. My goal is that this message can really spread and become part of the way we simply teach our kids throughout their day and make financial literacy something easy that we teach in the same way as we teach manners and eating your vegetables.

The Golden Quest

Tell me about your book.

My book, “The Golden Quest,” is a Calvin & Hobbes-style graphic novel that teaches important lessons about money. The lessons are simple so that even a young child can quickly learn them. However, the lessons are extremely powerful and will change the way you think about money while taking you on a journey towards a richer life.
