Boston-based private equity firm Emmanuel Capital Group (ECG) has officially announced the appointment of Tonio (T) McKinley as its new Chief Investment Officer. With a strong background in financial engineering and procurement, McKinley brings a wealth of experience to ECG, where he will be responsible for overseeing all investor-facing aspects of the business. His key responsibilities will include streamlining the implementation of the Northern Star investment strategy, engaging with his extensive network of institutional investors—including family offices, endowment funds, insurance companies, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds—while also driving strategic growth initiatives. In his new role, McKinley will work closely with CEO Mina Roufail and COO Michael Sourail and will also be joining the firm’s Principal ownership group as a partner.
With an impressive track record in capital markets, McKinley has a deep understanding of structuring and executing high-value financial transactions. Since 2022, he served as the Head of Capital Markets for Seven Karat Strategy Advisors, where he successfully led and streamlined $165 million in debt and equity procurement transactions. His prior experience also includes working as a Global Sourcing & Procurement Assistant for Macy’s Incorporated (NYSE: M), where he effectively managed $750 million in procurement transactions with both domestic and international partners. His ability to navigate complex financial landscapes, optimize deal structures, and foster key relationships positions him as a valuable asset to ECG’s leadership team.
McKinley’s academic background further complements his professional expertise. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Retail, Hospitality, & Tourism Management with a focus on Consumer Psychology from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Beyond his corporate achievements, he is actively involved in community and professional organizations, including ForbesBLK, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, and the Southaven Leadership Foundation, where he dedicates his time to mentoring young professionals and supporting leadership development initiatives. His commitment to education and community enrichment aligns seamlessly with ECG’s core mission and values.
Emmanuel Capital Group has built a strong reputation for its disciplined investment approach, leveraging deep market insights and strategic partnerships to drive value for investors. As McKinley steps into his role as Chief Investment Officer, he aims to further solidify ECG’s position in the private equity sector by refining investment strategies and enhancing capital allocation efficiency.
“As I integrate into my new role, I intend to maintain a long-term perspective to ensure that we keep a disciplined approach to our overall investment thesis even in times of short-term market volatility and increased inflation. By optimizing our capital allocations and conducting extensive analysis on our acquisition targets, we will be able to balance our risk-to-reward ratio, ultimately mitigating risk to our invested capital” McKinley stated.
With McKinley’s leadership, ECG is poised to expand its footprint in the private equity space, leveraging his expertise to drive impactful investment decisions, enhance portfolio performance, and foster sustainable growth. As the firm continues to evolve, McKinley’s strategic vision and deep industry connections will play a crucial role in shaping ECG’s future success.
