EP Review: “Whatever Floats Your Boat” by Jacob Rice

Jacob Rice has released his much-awaited debut EP, “Whatever Floats Your Boat.” This 15-minute production can best be described as pop-infused country music and will surely appeal to many country music fans. Additionally, anyone looking to discover the first-rate singer-songwriter out of Nashville should definitely give “Whatever Floats Your Boat” a listen.

“Whatever Floats Your Boat” contains five tracks: “How a Man Treats a Lady,” “Forever I Do,” “My House,” “Floats Your Boat,” and “Me, You & Summertime.” The first song, “How a Man Treats a Lady,” where he sings about how he wants to treat a romantic interest, cements Jacob Rice as a country artist worth paying attention to. It is a mid-tempo track that sets a solid tone for the EP and makes listeners want to stay to hear more. No wonder it received critical acclaim in just a short span of time. “Forever I Do” sees Jacob Rice push the boundaries between country and pop as he sings about wanting to be with his love forever. “My House” takes on an edgier tone, where Rice sings about a party with skinny dipping and people sleeping in his bed, showcasing his versatility as an artist. “Floats Your Boat” is a laid-back song where Jacob Rice gives advice to others to simply do what they want. Finally, “Me, You & Summertime” is the perfect album closer as Jacob Rice looks back with nostalgia at a particular summer with a love interest, once again blending country with pop.
