A love letter from Caruso’s grandfather to her grandmother at the turn of the century inspired the Bella Rosa Collection. Letters remained their one constant throughout their covert courting in Italy, his call to active duty, and the ocean separating them when he left to construct a house for them in America. Grandma Rosa eagerly anticipated his weekly letters for 18 years. The two returned together in 1949 to start a family and fulfill their ambition.
Rosa passed away three years later when a jet struck their New Jersey house, leaving just a purse in the wreckage. A letter that her husband had diligently carried about for 30 years contained his marriage proposal.
Caruso wore the first Bella Rosa bridal clutch on her wedding day with a love letter from her fiancé hidden more than 100 years later.
