So, you’re a bit fascinated by trans women. Maybe you’ve followed the controversies over transgender women holding story hours in public libraries and want to find a trans woman to discuss this and other issues and challenges she faces. Perhaps you have caught a few episodes of Ru Paul’s Drag Race and want to connect with a trans woman for a conversation about her lifestyle and maybe dating. Maybe you are a lesbian, nonbinary, cisgender female or male who wants to find a trans girl for friendship, to date, or simply to understand who they are.
How much do you really know about transgender people? If your answer is not a lot, then you have some work to do before you explore how to find trans women online.
Understanding Transgender People – What to Know
The term “transgender” refers to a gender identity that encompasses lots of people. But in short, it relates to anyone who does not identify as being the sex they were born or assigned at birth. It is really an individual’s internal sense of being male, female, or something else other than their birth sex.
Gender expression refers to how trans people express their preferred gender – behavior, dress, hairstyles, even voice and certainly body characteristics.
The Difference Between Sex and Gender
Sex is a biological status given at birth as either male or female. It is determined by outward physical genitalia, chromosomes, hormones, and even internal anatomy.
Gender roles refer to what a society considers normal behaviors and activities for males and females. Boys play with trucks, play contact sports, date girls, and marry a woman. Girls play with dolls and can certainly participate in sports, date guys, and marry men.
Gender identity is what an individual assigns themselves – male, female, trans, nonbinary, etc.
The Difference Between Sexual Orientation and Gender
They are not the same. Gender is how a person identifies. Sexual orientation relates to someone’s romantic, emotional, and physical attraction to others. Trans people may be gay, lesbian, bisexual, straight and exploring, asexual, or fluid in their attractions, just as non-trans people are.
When members of the trans community speak about their gender and sexual orientation in combination, they may label themselves as only one thing or both. Thus, trans men who are also gay would identify as gay males, whether they have transitioned or not. Transgender ladies who are bisexual would identify as bisexual, transition or not.
If you are confused, let’s simplify. Trans men are women who identify as female; transgender women are men who identify as women. They may have any sexual orientation that others may have. So, if you are looking to find transgender women, understand that you are looking for someone born male who has abandoned that gender and identifies as female.
What is Transition?
Trans people have options. They can remain in their current physical bodies as they are; they can seek medical treatment in the form of hormone therapy to become more in line with their identity. Thus, transgender women can avoid growing facial hair, for example. Still, others opt for a surgical solution to make a full transition to their identity.
Social and Political Challenges
Everyone in the transgender community faces challenges living in their identities. Too many straight people see them as “freaks,” avoid them and do not see them as whole individuals with goals, values, careers, and such. Further, they need to protect their children from them.
On a political level, trans people are not covered by most anti-discrimination laws at the local and state levels. Obviously, this puts them at a disadvantage in many areas of life, including housing, healthcare, and employment.
Hate crimes are common for trans and other nonbinary people, and cross-dressing can often bring these on.
Cross-dressers among transgender men and women are common, and they range from perhaps a single item of clothing to a full outfit. Trans women and men in full cross-dress are looked upon differently by the public. Trans men can get by in men’s clothing because so much of it is unisex in appearance. A transgender woman, though, is looked upon with criticism and disdain by many.
It’s important to remember that cross-dressing is a form of expressing a person’s gender and is not an indication of eroticism. Drag queens is a term that describes men who dress as females for entertainment purposes at clubs, other venues, and on Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Likewise, a drag king refers to a woman
Genderqueer and Pronouns
Here is a term that a transgender person may use to describe themselves if they do not consider themselves to be binary but fall somewhere on a spectrum between female and male. Many genderqueer people also request to be referred to by different pronouns – some examples are “zie,” “hir,” or even “they” or “them.”
And there are other nonbinary people who identify as androgynous, gender nonconforming, multi-gendered, two-spirit people, and third gender. How they define these identities may differ.
How and Why Are People Transgender?
Nature vs. nurture. It’s an abiding interest for medical and psychological professionals/researchers, and it applies to far more human traits than being transgender. In this case, given the diversity of transgender identities, there are probably diverse answers. Are some just born trans because of genetics and hormone levels in the prenatal environment? Yes. Do experiences as children, adolescents, and adults contribute? Yes. It really is a moot point, but the stats say that maybe about 1% of the population identifies as trans. It is important to note that transgender people are not considered to have a mental health disorder.
Given all of this information, you are probably now ready to approach your goal of finding a transgender woman online. So, let’s look at where and how that can happen.
Finding Your Trans Woman Online
The first thing that comes to mind is online dating sites, especially those that are focused on transgender dating or that are a dating app that has a category for transgender dating. Here’s a news flash – online dating sites and online dating apps are not all created equal. And find a trans female that meets your preferences may not be available on many dating sites. Indeed, transgender dating can be tricky when using dating sites.
Before you begin looking at trans dating sites, stop and think. What is your goal in finding a trans female?
If, for example, you are looking for a social connection, you will want a dating app that operates with a strong social network feature. Not every online dating site has these.
If you are looking for casual trans dating, then you will not want a dating site that focuses only on quick hookups. Yes, there are many dating apps that focus on just this. On the other hand, if you just want a one-night stand, you can find a dating app for that. Otherwise, you’ll need to look at other dating sites.
If you are seeking a serious relationship based on the same interests, values, and life goals, then you’ll want a dating site that provides matches for transgender singles who look for like-minded individuals seeking just the right person – a potential partner in real life.
So, just what are your options for a dating site that meets your needs? Here they are.
Trans Dating App Options
Let’s go to both extremes and meet in the middle.
Mainstream Dating Apps
These are the “big boys” in the industry. Most began as a dating platform for straight singles looking for a male-female dating experience. Over the years, they have grown into huge conglomerates in the online dating world.
These large guys came to see that there was a market in the LGBTQ community, and so they expanded to provide a welcoming space for that population. Within that population, of course, trans-oriented men and women were also included. But they offer a limited pool of trans-dating members.
Transgender members have not flocked to these mainstream apps in large numbers, though, because trans singles have found other apps that have larger numbers of trans individuals and offer more potential matches that are compatible with their gender identities and give a greater chance for meeting and dating that ideal partner.
Niche Transgender Dating Sites
There are transgender dating apps that are exclusive to the transgender community, such as TS Dates and Fiorry. There is even one exclusive to cross-dressers. Such a transgender dating site is certainly more attractive than many other dating apps, but not everyone feels that they offer a completely safe environment. There are instances of fake profiles getting through by people whose motives are anything but good. They engage in catfishing and even harassment. At the very worst, they attempt to get personal and financial information after establishing “meaningful connections” and may even set up in-person meetups for really nefarious deeds.
In the Middle – LGBTQ+ Sites and Apps
While not exclusively a transgender dating app, these platforms are all-inclusive to the LGBTQ+ community and welcome all of the diverse communities within this large and growing sector of non-heteronormative people.
Looking at the Most Prominent App – Taimi
One of the best things about using an LGBT dating app is that everyone shares one thing in common – they have rejected the cisgender societal norms to be who they are and to love who they want to love. A trans person can have a TS dating life free of judgment, harassment, and bullying and meet wonderful people while doing just that.
Trans women can find a safe and secure environment and have any dating experience they want. The pool of trans women is larger than an exclusively trans dating app, and anyone who wants to engage trans women can do so in an open environment.
Let’s take a look at Taimi, the largest all-inclusive LGBTQ+ dating site, catering to any desired dating experience and with a user-friendly platform. With over 17 million users worldwide, it is the largest dating app of its kind and the perfect place to meet trans people (women and men) for any kind of social or dating relationship. It also welcomes other users who are currently hetero but who may be exploring their sexuality or who are simply interested in social relationships with those in the LGBTQ+ community. There is a strong social component to the platform, where members can join groups and forums and post and chat.
“All our members are bound by our terms and conditions and community standards policies,” states a Taimi staff member. “Violations are not tolerated.”
The identity and profile verification process are quite strict, and user profiles are scrutinized to ensure authenticity. There is a free membership that allows members to explore and connect with others and a premium membership for those who wish additional options. The groups, fun activities, and events can make trans dating enjoyable without pressure.
If you are looking for trans women for any type of relationship, Taimi pretty much has it all. TS dating comes in all “shapes and sizes” there.
Other Places to Meet Trans Women Online
There is another venue for someone to find transgender women apart from transgender dating sites. These are online forums for trans people and other nonbinary people. A Google search will result in a large number of them, so you might want to explore their purposes and what they offer. These are largely for discussion and support, but by joining in and participating, you may connect with a trans female or two who may be looking for the same thing you are.
There are also local groups of trans women (and men) that have in-person gatherings and events. Most of these occur in larger metro areas, but if you are close by, it might be worth exploring some. Again, Google them and see what pops up!
Finding trans women for friendship, a hookup, casual dating, or even a more lasting relationship is so much easier than days gone by. Now that you have read through this article, you understand trans women, their traits, goals, values, and challenges. And, best of all, you know where to find trans women where they hang out online.

That’s when it hit me: why not channel this passion into helping others navigate their love lives? And just like that, my journey as a dating coach began.
