The conversation on legalizing marijuana, hemp, and cannabis looks like a vicious cycle in many states who’ve yet to legalize the use of marijuana however, what is legal in all 50 states is CBD, short for “Cannabidiol”. Many brands including skincare, beauty, foods, and other holistic practices are now incorporating more CBD into their products knowing not only the demand but the benefits that their customers receive. One of these brands taking advantage of what CBD has to offer is Hella Black, Hella Loud. Founded by Entrepreneur Ron Green, Hella Black, Hella Loud is Cannabis for The Culture.
Hella Black, Hella Loud is providing valuable resources & equitable opportunities for Black people who would like to enter the cannabis industry. One of their future goals is to set up a growth operation via crowdfunding where they can cultivate their own flowers. With this facility, they plan to educate & employ Blacks while also providing a return on investment for those who contributed to the operation.
Q. Ron, why did you decide to invest in your own CBD brand?
As an avid cannabis connoisseur and serial entrepreneur, this was the perfect opportunity for me to combine the two things I’m passionate about. I see the cannabis industry as a huge $25 billion dollar pie that I need a piece of. The transfer of wealth taking place is astonishing! The ironic aspect of my story is that I’ve been arrested 3 times for possession of this amazing plant medicine throughout my life. With so many Black men being incarcerated for doing the same thing that White men in California and Colorado and other areas are being paid for, I felt it was necessary for me to take my experience as a legacy operator to the next level and legitimize my activity. CBD is legal and it boasts some great therapeutic benefits. I care about people and this is an amazing way to spread some love and healing to the people who need it.
Q: Let’s educate some folks here; what’s the difference between marijuana and CBD?
Here’s the quick breakdown: CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are the most common cannabinoids found in cannabis products.
-
THC and CBD are in both marijuana and hemp. Marijuana contains much more THC than hemp, while hemp has a lot of CBD.
-
THC is the main psychoactive compound in marijuana. It’s what makes people feel “high.” CBD doesn’t cause that high. Instead, it’s been said to work with other elements in the body linked to feelings of well-being.
Q: What are some benefits of CBD?
People take CBD products to help with everything from arthritis, Crohn’s Disease, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, inflammation, migraines, epilepsy, autoimmune diseases, depression, and anxiety
Q: Where is Hella Black, Hella Loud sourced from?
We have farming partners in Pennsylvania, Maine, Colorado, and California.
Q: How do you see the Cannabis industry five years from now?
In five years, Cannabis will be decriminalized nationwide. People who were jailed for possession and distribution of marijuana will be exonerated from their criminal charges. Clinical research will aid in the discovery of the untapped benefits of cannabis consumption. Therapeutic application will be normalized through marketing by companies focused on mental health and wellness. Dispensaries will be run by legacy operators within our communities.
I expect to see more Black-owned grow operations and urban farming development as we become educated on the lucrative aspects of the business. I foresee competition from huge corporations looking to capture a share of the multi-billion dollar cannabis market. The competition will be great, only the strongest brands will survive.
