As Remote Work Remains High, PRO-LAB Raises Awareness for Radon-Free Home Office Workspaces During National Radon Action Month and Center for Disease Control’s National Radon Week. Industry leader PRO-LAB’s efficient radon test kits can identify radon in workspaces.

Clifton, NJ (FEBRUARY 11, 2022) Many Americans’ jobs transitioned to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic, turning their homes into their offices. Going into 2022, remote working remains high, with Gallup recently reporting that 45% of full-time employees in the U.S. are still working from home either all or part of the time. Gallup’s findings also found that 13% of American full-time employees planned to work exclusively from home in the future and 31% planned to work in a hybrid model, so having a safe place to work at home will continue to be a necessity. One hazard that could interfere with a safe home office is if a house has elevated levels of radon, a deadly radioactive gas that rises from decaying uranium underground into homes through openings in foundations or basements. As January is National Radon Action Month and National Radon Week (January 24th – 28th), PRO-LAB is bringing this silent killer to the attention of more Americans and giving them away to detect it with its Radon Test Kits.

“Radon is a silent killer that more people should be conscious of and know how to detect, and PRO-LAB is proud to increase awareness of this dangerous gas,” said PRO-LAB founder and CEO James McDonnell. “Our test kits provide people an easy way to find out their house’s radon level and take the first step toward ensuring their home a safe place to live and work.”

How Can One Mitigate the Risks Associated with Underride Accidents?

PRO-LAB promoting awareness of this hazardous chemical comes at the time of greatest risk for high radon. Though radon can make its way into homes at any time of the year, homes tend to reach their highest radon levels during the winter. This is because furnaces in homes without cold air return draw air from basements and crawl spaces to provide heating, accelerating the rise of radon through the ground. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, radon is the number one cause of lung cancer for non-smokers and causes 21,000 lung cancer deaths a year. Because radon is invisible and odorless, a remote worker could spend days working in the basement or guest room they have converted into an office and never know that they have been taking in a dangerous, cancer-causing chemical.

That is where PRO-LAB’s Short Term Radon Test Kits come in. With PRO-LAB Short Term Radon Test Kits, one can easily find out whether their house has a high radon level by opening the kit’s vials and leaving them exposed to air for 96 hours. After the necessary exposure time, the test kit’s vial is recapped and mailed to PRO-LAB’s laboratory for an EPA-certified analysis with guaranteed results within one week. The EPA’s acceptable level of radon is four (4) picocuries per liter. If the PRO-LAB test kit produces a result higher than the recommended level, one should take steps to reduce the levels by keeping vents to crawl spaces open, minimizing time spent in low areas like basements, increasing the circulation of outside air into the home, and calling a professional radon mitigator who will install a radon mitigation system.

About PRO-LAB

Selling microwave leakage detectors that his brother invented door-to-door gave PRO-LAB founder Jamie McDonnell the idea for his own creation: Home safety kits for people to check their homes for lead, radon, asbestos, bacteria, and other health hazards. This spark of inspiration leads to him fulfilling the American dream. Now, PRO-LAB has served as the leading producer of home test kits for 25 years, bringing in $200,000 annually. PRO-LAB’s test kits provide accurate and reliable measurements of dangerous pollutants in a building’s air, water supply, and surface areas. It is the one and only test kit producer to have its own 40,000 square foot testing laboratory, where kits are sent after use for evaluation. With 15 different testing kits available, PRO-LAB helps homes and facilities take their first step toward making their living and working safely.
