How a Boutique Ad Agency Lands Top Luxury Clients in the Ultra High Net Worth Category

Clients

Jordan Obinger, founder and CEO of Edition Studios, started his Minneapolis-based branding, web, and creative agency at the age of 26 with only two employees and four clients. Today, with over 10 team members, more than 40 annual clients, and a second office in Los Angeles, the company’s primary focus is high-end branding, web, and digital marketing.

“We’re nimble, ambitious, and taking over the luxury market space,” says Obinger. “Attention to detail is critical. We work with the best, and so we communicate like the best. Luxury brands are more than a label. They know their roots. They have a story. And they create value for their customers.”

Edition Studios is attracting top clients.

Instead of focusing on attracting clients who pay top dollar, Edition Studios focuses on clients who impact the world around them. Obinger wants to work with people who have a powerful story and clearly defined values. In his opinion, attracting this type of client is more about who you are than what you can do.

“We live in a world that’s incredibly focused on getting ahead,” he remarks. “Success isn’t about how hard you work or how much you know. Success is about building healthy relationships. Ultimately, people want to work with people they like.”

This philosophy has enabled Obinger’s boutique company to attract some of the industry’s top brands. Some brands Edition has chosen to represent include: Cierto Tequila, Eklund|Gomes, Eleven on the River, Streeter Homes, Lagos Aesthetics, and Lifetime Fitness.

Edition Studios collaborates with ambitious and fearless founders to build, launch, and grow early-stage companies from the ground up. They also partner with existing companies that need to hit the restart button and rebrand. In either case, Edition guides companies through intensive brand identity, web design and development, and digital marketing.

Obinger gives clients the dedication and personal service they could expect from someone on their internal team. For example, in 2018, Obinger began working with Los Angeles billionaire Todd Chaffee — one of the primary VC investors in Netflix, Twitter, Compass, Kayak, and Coinbase — and assisted him in the launch of 3 startups.

Chaffee entrusted Edition Studios with the creative direction for Cierto Tequila’s branding, bottle design, packaging, web presence, digital design, and social media marketing. When Chaffee wanted to support front-line medical heroes during the pandemic, Obinger helped him launch the True Hero Fund in under two weeks and raise $1,132,785 in under a month. In fact, Edition Studios devised the first-ever Instagram live Telethon with over 20 high-profile celebrities, raising over $20k in two hours. Finally, when Chaffee established the NobleLight Foundation as chairman and founder, he put Edition over the branding and web presence for the foundation’s dozens of non-profit organizations, including Blankets of Hope, Charity Water, One, Rainforest Trust, 350.org, WWF, Virgin Unite, and Wildlife Conservation Society.

Edition Studio’s secret to landing top clients

Obinger’s secret to attracting high-profile clients is the type of person they want to collaborate with. In addition to his agency’s 40 clients, he and his team take on pro-bono cases for charities and non-profits, striving to say “yes” to any worthy cause in need of marketing expertise.

Ever since 2013, Obinger has been on a board of a non-profit and is the youngest member on Smile Network International’s Board. Over the past four years, he and his team donated $150,000 of Edition Studios services to Smile Network, winning Champion of Hope at the 2021 GALA for exceeding board expectations to a non-profit

Between the years of 2012 and 2015, Obinger served as a board member of the Carson Glore Foundation, a non-profit organization that took on the challenge of building schools in Africa. In 2014, he traveled overseas to visit the schools and identify sites for new facilities.

In 2019, Obinger led the creation of a non-profit for The Warren Family Foundation of Minnesota. He supervised strategic design from both web and digital perspectives to create and launch the foundation with Kevin Warren, previous Chief Operation Officer of the Minnesota Vikings and current Big Ten Conference Commissioner. Along with his daughter, Peri Warren, Obinger supervised the design of Warren’s book, Build Your Own Pool.
