Until rather recently, the only way to have a virtual reality experience was through the use of technical equipment such as headsets or volumetric video capturing technology. However, with the onset and launch of the metaverse, and an increase in the discovery and development of new technologies, users can now dive into the world’s limitless expression.
Now that users can access the metaverse without headsets, they are able to experience much more frictionless and accessible solutions. Previous headset hardware was cumbersome to set up, connect, and operate. In fact, some users expressed motion sickness and high cost of purchase issues as strong barriers of entry for a lot of potential users. By not having to wear a headset, users will be less likely to be “disconnected” from the real world and can more openly share their experiences with their network.
Lastly, headsets are highly associated with virtual reality experiences. However, the Metaverse is much more than just a virtual world. AR/XR/MR for instance will help bridge the virtual world with the real world and could be the best symbol of the true value proposition of the metaverse. Now, users can experience an enhancement to their lives and experiences through digital technology, not just another technological accessory.
Today, there are many avenues to the metaverse that is already in the hands of millions: mobile phone, tablets, console games, computers, and AR glasses. The question is no longer just about getting access to specific equipment and more about what type of experience users will really have through those devices. Those platforms give you access to digital content and the digital world where you can create and share content with other users, but the experience is also less immersive than with a VR headset.
The good thing is users now have multiple entry points to the metaverse from real devices or through applications and web services. The metaverse is and will be, a platform and hardware agnostic that will open up new forms of experiences where the virtual and real-world can continue to overlap.
Tetavi is an immersive content platform at the nexus of technology, entertainment, and content creation that uses cutting-edge volumetric video technology to create the next generation of digital content and immersive experiences for the Metaverse and Web3.
