Football season is finally here, and if you are a true fan, the wait has been unbearable. But now the boys are hitting the gridiron once more, so it’s time to throw an epic watch party for family and friends. Doing so can be fun and inexpensive if you follow a few tips.
Invite the Right People
Watch parties only appeal to real fans, so don’t invite people who don’t know who won last year’s Super Bowl. They will be bored and ask questions like, “What does the tight end do? Only people who already own a team shirt will be truly interested in your party.
Tailgate at Home
The best football food can be found at tailgate parties all around the country. Replicate the tailgate experience at our home. Barbeque burgers and franks or steaks and brats. Arrange the food buffet-style so people can help themselves as the game progresses. Keep the drinks on ice and make them easy to reach.
Have Team Insignia Party Favors
Buy napkins, plates, cups, etc. with the team logo. Add streamers and balloons in the team colors and ask everyone to wear team shirts. Caution: If you invite a Packers fan to your Bears party, expect some tension. Or better yet, avoid the potential conflict. Football watch parties work best when the fans are rooting for the same team.
Plan Kid Activities
If your watch party includes kids, set up a room with fun items just for them. Access to video games is crucial. You can also set up a mini-football field for the older kids to use during the game. Flag football only, of course.
Offer Dessert
Save the dessert tray for the second half. You can decorate a cake if you wish, but you may choose to offer a variety of cookies, candy, and pastries. Snack food works best during a football game since excited fans may rather grab and eat something easy, especially in the final minutes.
Do an After-Game Wrap Up
The party doesn’t need to end right after the game. You can take time to rehash the game or catch part of another one. Relax and pass out the cigars. Most games are on Sunday, though, so your guest may want to head home early to prepare for their workweek. You can signal the end of the party by turning off the television or handing out leftovers. Football fans won’t be offended. They will have worn themselves out cheering during the game.
A football watch party can be simple and affordable. The main ingredient is a love for a particular team. Sports fans bond easily and truly want to watch the game. You can’t go wrong with excited fans, delicious but simple food, a few drinks, and a good reception.
You can buy football-themed merchandise at a big box store or online for a reasonable price. And the food only needs to be plentiful, not fancy. Football fans love a good gathering with others who know that the Chiefs, Eagles, Dolphins, 49ers, etc., are the best team in the league.
