As soon as a nip in the air and leaves change color, everyone begins to countdown to Halloween. Kids start thinking about their costumes and all the fun. Do not worry. Adults do not need to miss all the fun. Here are tips on how to throw a pumpkin carving party for adults.
Fun Invites
Adults love to receive party invites, whether it’s an email or text message. Make clear the time and place. Do not forget to mention it is an adult-only party. Give people time to find babysitters if needed.
Pumpkins
First, pick the pumpkins. Try to get a variety of colors and sizes so your guests have a choice. Create a fun display for your guests. However, there is nothing wrong with asking guests to bring a pumpkin.
Keep It Outside
If possible, take the fun and the mess outside. Cover tables with brown paper or a disposable tablecloth. Have plenty of trash bags to help keep the mess down to a minimum. For chiller weather, have some blankets and comfortable seating to keep guests from getting cold.
If the party needs to be in the kitchen, put brown paper on the floor and cover the table. It will make cleanup easier. Have extra towels for guests to use to clean up.
Setting Up
On the table, place cups or jars filled with craving tools. Do not forget bowls for the pumpkin seeds. Make sure to have plenty of paper towels on hand. Also, if you are crafty, you may want to have some craft supplies on hand, including markers, paints, and beads for embellishing the pumpkins. Print jack-o-lantern patterns for your guests to use.
Food
It is not a party if there is no food. Each guest can bring a dish to share. Other possibilities include grilling some hamburgers or hotdogs. Put out plates of finger foods to keep it simple.
Drinks
Whether you serve pumpkin ale or a crisp fall wine, set up an area where guests can help themselves. Consider creating a cocktail for the special event. Who isn’t going to want to try some witches’ brew or a poison apple cocktail? Consider filling a cooler with plenty of ice and some bottles of water.
Cigars Anyone?
Since it is an adult party, and hopefully outside, now is time for cigars. When choosing your cigars, make sure there are a variety of flavors ranging from mild to more robust. Those who have never smoked one before may need a lesson in cigar etiquette. Not sure what to buy? Ask the friends who smoke cigars for their recommendations.
Lights
Do not forget the lights for the finished pumpkin creations. Small fairy lights or battery-operated candles make for great choices. They are easily found online and in craft stores. Consider buying different colors to make the pumpkin unique.

Roast the Seeds
Once everyone has gutted their pumpkins, gather and clean the seeds. Put them on a cookie sheet with seasonings. Place the seeds in the oven while everyone is craving their pumpkin. Serve them after everyone finishes.
