How Will Plastic Surgery Change in 2023?

Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery numbers have been continuously growing, yet the nature of procedures tends to change each year. In 2023 there will be more combination surgeries, procedures to restore function rather than change the esthetic look, and inclination towards natural beauty, a plastic surgeon predicts.

December 1, 2022. Breast augmentation, liposuction, and tummy tuck have been the most demanded plastic procedures for a few years now. However, they are slowly giving up their positions to new trends—genital area alteration for esthetic purposes, male breast reduction, and others.

Dr.Mantas Kievisas, a plastic surgeon at Nordesthetics Clinic, one of the leading medical tourism clinics in Europe, says the plastic surgery landscape is bound to change in the following year and predicts key trends that will dominate the surgery rooms.

Combined surgery numbers are climbing

Combined surgery, when a person undergoes several different plastic procedures simultaneously, has been increasingly popular over the past years and is expected to be in high demand next year.

“Out of all plastic surgeries performed at the Clinic, around 70% of them are combined. For example, one of the most requested combined surgeries is a mommy makeover that combines a tummy tuck with breast correction. People increasingly choose to have several procedures at once to save time and money, to have a lower cumulative risk of complications, and to only one anesthesia instead of two or more. It is easier to plan a dual surgery and take time off work to travel and heal than to do it twice,” Dr. Kievisas said.

People lean toward natural beauty

Breast augmentation surgery has been one of the most requested procedures for many years, with 365,000 breast enlargement procedures being performed in 2021. However, the tendency is gradually changing, and patients are opting toward more natural looks. The surgeon has seen an increase in women who no longer want breast augmentation and instead go for breast reduction or breast implant removal procedures.

Social media’s trending return to natural beauty also affects how people view these procedures.

“Plastic surgery is not only for changing one’s look. Now it is more popular than ever to use it to restore former looks. For instance, women want to get back the body they had before pregnancy. Other times the procedure is performed solely for functionality reasons—to remove excess skin after weight loss surgery, lift eyelids, and correct muscle diastasis. Plastic surgery can be combined with natural beauty values,” the surgeon added.

The surgeon also notes that people no longer wait years to correct certain features they are not happy with and would rather have their confidence and bodies back sooner.
