In an era where knowledge and professional networks are pivotal to career success, the International Mentoring Foundation for the Advancement of Higher Education (IMFAHE) stands out as a beacon of innovation and opportunity. Founded by Dr. Maria Soriano-Carot and Dr. Zafira Castaño, IMFAHE is not just an organization; it’s a global career accelerator that democratizes access to top-tier educational resources and professional networks. With its headquarters in Boston, IMFAHE has become a pivotal platform for fostering international collaboration, accelerating innovation, and promoting professional excellence across various fields.
A Decade of Impact and Expansion
It all began ten years ago when a group of visionary Spanish PhDs, immersed in the dynamic ecosystems of Harvard, MIT, and BU, decided to share the wealth of knowledge and innovation they were exposed to with students back in their home country. This led to the creation of the International Mentor Program (IMP), a pioneering initiative that has since empowered thousands of students to build exceptional career profiles through access to international knowledge and highly qualified professionals.
Over the years, IMFAHE has significantly broadened its horizon. Initially focused on Biomedicine, it now encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including Engineering, Business, Behavioral Sciences, and more. The organization’s programs have also expanded beyond Spain, extending to Portugal and partnering with prestigious institutions like the University of Seville, University of Malaga, University of La Laguna, University of Valladolid, University of Oviedo, Fomento San Sebastian, NCS, the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança and the University of Minho, among others.
Innovative Programs Cultivating Excellence
IMFAHE’s portfolio of programs is as diverse as it is impactful. “IMFAHE Connects” is an online communication platform that every year links over 300 professionals from top organizations worldwide with the brightest students and professors from IMFAHE´s partner universities, facilitating project development, collaborations, and the exchange of innovative ideas.
The flagship International Mentor Program (IMP) offers mentees personalized advice from global professionals affiliated with elite organizations such as Harvard University and Google. This mentorship is invaluable for professional inspiration and guidance.
In a bid to foster innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, the “IMFAHE Nodal Award-Shark Tank” provides seed capital to the most innovative projects developed by multidisciplinary teams on the platform. Additionally, “IMFAHE Online Quarter Courses” offer intensive, practical courses in innovation, entrepreneurship, and professional development, taught in the Harvard style.
To further support outstanding students, “IMFAHE Excellence Fellowships” provide scholarships for internships at internationally prestigious organizations. A special focus is placed on promoting women in STEM through the “IMFAHE Women in STEM Fellowship.”
Fostering a Global Community of Innovators
IMFAHE’s impact extends to educators through the International Professional Development Program for Professors (IPDP), which offers webinars on cutting-edge topics like open-science and AI, and innovation in higher education. The annual IMFAHE International Conference further cements the organization’s role in promoting effective networking, collaboration, and innovation.
Under the visionary leadership of Zafira Castaño and Maria Soriano-Carot, together with an outstanding team of Program Directors, IMFAHE has truly become a cornerstone for those aspiring to excel in their careers through access to global knowledge and networks. As it continues to expand and evolve, IMFAHE remains committed to its mission of building professional profiles of excellence and bridging the gap between talent and opportunity on a global scale.
