For most people, becoming a rapper is the dream; you are lucky if you get a record deal at the beginning of your career. If not, you might have to spend half of your time finding gigs and doing unpaid shows to make your talent and voice heard.

In the contemporary world, we have many platforms where one can boast their talent and skills, including YouTube, Soundcloud, Spotify, etc. Several artists have started their careerson the internet. But it depends on whether you want to be a cover artist or produce your music.

If you are a cover star, it might be easier to start your personal space where you can show off your creative skills by covering other musicians’ songs. When it comes to being an independent artist who wants to release their music, there are many things you have to do yourself. That is why being a producer and rapper can be tricky for you, and you should contemplate everything before jumping to a conclusion.

List of the obstacles that you may have while being a Producer/Rapper

The problems you face are infinite; the things mentioned below are not set in stone. You may encounter them or not, but they might come your way if you are an independent artist or rapper.

Odd Working Hours

One potential drawbackis the unpredictable and odd hours we workas producers. You must write your lyrics, make your rhythms and melody, find the right beats, and record the music. These things cannot be done altogether, and creativity requires a lot of brainstorming, which is why sometimes you have to pull nightery and spend the whole day in your studio.

So, beware if you have a family at home and you might see your health deteriorate because it will be an exhausting and long journey until youget your break.

Inconsistent Income

With odd working hours comes another drawback. As a producer/rapper, you might not have consistent income at the start of your career, which will be stressful if you hire someone to work under you. There maybe months when you will have no money, so try to cut down on your budget. You will have to do Budgeting, Scheduling, Communicating, Marketing, and Other creative responsibilities.

This also means you may have to work other jobs to earn the money you want to spend on music production and handle financial responsibilities.

This does demand more energy, but that’s normal if you are passionate.

Uncomfortable Work Environments

With all the above things, many other things might be annoying for you. Despite that, it is nothing compared to the uncomfortable workspace. You might not have a luxurious studio where you can spend hours making music. You must use your friend’s garage, backyard, and room. It can affect your performance because you may not have good equipment at the start, so with all these, you have to put more effort into creating your rap masterpiece.

These are the three basic things because being a producer/rapper means years of failure. But if you keep working passionately, you may hit the breakthrough you have worked on for a long time. This takes us to the next question, and that is:

So, Is Becoming A Rapper/Producer Worth It?

You will face obstacles and struggles in every career you choose, so if you want to become a rapper/producer, go for it. You need passion and consistency to make a living by doing something you love. Many artists can be your inspiration when pursuing a career in music production while being a rapper. One such artist is Travon Payne or Blunt Da Blockmonsta.

Travon Payne

Travon Payne, better known as Blunt Da Blockmonsta, was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1982 to African-American parents. Though, Payne’s career began in 2003 with the formation of a rap group known as the “Static Gang.” He recorded 27 tracks for five distinct albums, including Mafia Madness Vol 1, Reloaded, M.O.B Monstaz On Da Block, It’s On Like Donkey Kong, and Motivation. Along with the singles Can’t See, Feel Like, Throw Yo Hood up, Explain, Thumbin, and much more!

But he didn’t get royalties for his work, so he went solo and started producing rap music by creating his label. He released his first album and earned recognition for his solo album “DaBlockmonsta,” He’s recently received a lot of praise for his memorable and incredible tunes.

He is planning to release its new album DaGuttaSoul called Dangerous Ridaz. He released a single called No Help on Bluejay Wangteam’s album Splurge 2 Retake.
