Jacqueline Baker on The Unexpected Leader Exclusive Interview

Why is this subject, “The Unexpected Leader,” important in the world?

Humans crave social opportunities and opportunities for connection, which usually happens around holidays. This topic is important so that we can all approach our various scenarios with intention and the best laid.

What is the pressing issue right, and how are you addressing it?

One of the pressing issues that I am addressing right now is encouraging people to see themselves as leaders personally and professionally despite their role, position, status, or title. When we see ourselves as leaders in all of our roles and life scenarios, we are more intentional, more empathetic, less selfish and open to creating inclusive spaces for ourselves and the people that we want to spend time with.

Jacqueline Baker Biography

What is your background in this subject?

As a former wedding and event producer and now a professional in modern etiquette and leadership with a loud love of hosting dinner parties, my almost 20-year career is deeply intertwined in the hosting and holiday etiquette space.  I am continuously looking for ways to help people see themselves as leaders, even at super social functions like holidays and dinner parties.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

My first entrepreneurial foray was in the world of wedding and event production. I co-founded a company in this space in my early 20s and this experience is what fueled my curiosity in the professional development space and is how I ended up ultimately launching Scarlet Communications, the leadership consultancy.

What are your passions outside of your career?

I am grateful that I deeply enjoy my professional work and have designed my career to align with my everyday life. My career focus of helping people start the things that they want to do and elevate to their next level of leadership is truly a core tenant of my life. When I’m not working, hosting a dinner party or social gathering, traveling to new places, and re-watching James Bond movies is where I spend my time!

Are there any social causes that you believe in and support?

After spending years supporting startups, particularly in the health tech space, I have a deep interest in supporting causes that address social determinants of health.

What is next for you?

Instead of doing what so many of us perpetually do all of the time – rush to the next thing, I’m intentionally doing more of the same. The next is what’s happening right now, doubling down on helping organizations, individuals, startup founders, and community organizations identify and elevate their leaders into more confident and prepared leaders.
