Keynote Speaker Lisa Thee on How Women Can Beat Burnout

Lisa Thee is a keynote speaker, author, entrepreneur, thought leader, and expert in beating burnout.

Lisa first found herself on the brink of burnout in 2018. After some extensive re-evaluation, she left her secure director role at Intel in Corporate America to become the founder and CEO of an AI software startup focused on making children safer online and in real life.

Founding her company, Minor Guard, was the start of building the life and legacy she wanted on her own terms. Lisa shared, “My role as CEO and Co-Founder of Minor Guard was the catalyst in my career and in my advocacy for embracing transformation.”

Burnout Disproportionately Affects Women

A 2021 McKinsey study on women in the workplace concluded that “Women are even more burned out now than they were a year ago, and burnout is escalating much faster among women than among men. One in three women says that they have considered downshifting their career or leaving the workforce this year, compared with one in four who said this a few months into the pandemic.”

At Minor Guard, Lisa led a team of all women developing AI for social justice. Since then, she has made it her mission to help accelerate women towards success, beat burnout, and embrace transformation, particularly in this post-pandemic landscape.

Post-pandemic, Lisa found herself yet again on brink of burnout, blowing up her career, and redefining success. She said, “It became glaringly obvious that what had worked before was no longer working. And a new transformation was necessary to live the life that I wanted.”

Lisa’s goal is to help women blow up their careers and live the life they truly want and deserve. In her keynote speeches and upcoming book Go! – coming in the fall of 2023 from Fast Company Press – she shares her own experiences and those shared with her to guide women to advocate for themselves in their careers and personal lives to beat burnout.

How Do You Beat Burnout?

Here are Lisa’s top 3 tips to start beating burnout and blowing up your career:

  1. Evaluate what’s not working and what is. Be sure to reflect on the details and the whys. That’s where the challenge lies. It’s easy to get caught up in successes only to realize later you didn’t find it fulfilling.
  2. Start small. Blowing up your career and beating burnout is scary. It can be risky and it requires us to go outside of our comfort zone. Taking baby steps can ease you into it, especially if you’re still unsure of what you want.
  3. Network for your career and yourself. Having the right people in your corner can make your career transformation so much easier, especially if you can turn to those people when you’re at your lowest.

Lisa’s Keynote on Beating Burnout

Lisa’s latest keynote speech reflects on the same details she shares in her book Go! to help women transform their careers. Lisa says, “Beating burnout and blowing up your career doesn’t require you to become an entrepreneur, but a lot of what is valued in entrepreneurship is valuable for all women in their careers.”

In her keynote and book, Lisa focuses on self-advocacy, overcoming hurdles, community, and creating a sustainable life post-pandemic.
