What problem does the Nokona solve?
Nokona provides the highest-quality ballgloves and leather goods, all built on the rich heritage of American manufacturing and America’s pastime. Our products cater to discerning customers who value handcraftsmanship, and who understand investing in top-tier items that can literally be used for generations. All of our leather goods are made with the very same leathers used in our ballgloves, so you can carry a piece of baseball with you. In addition to the uniqueness of our famous leathers and techniques, being American-made gives customers the assurance that they can get any of our items serviced by the very same team that made them. It’s a smart buy, and we are proud to be a part of it.
Tell us about the founder. What is their background?
Nokona started in 1926 in a small north-Texas town, called Nocona, making leather carry goods. The company was founded by local banker Cad McCall and another local, T.B. Wilkes, and started with ladies’ purses and men’s wallets. After Bobby Storey became president of the company in 1930, Nokona began making sports equipment out of leather. Our first ballglove was produced in 1934, and we have continued to handcraft top-of-the-line ballgloves in the same Texas town ever since. After founding and running Cutters Gloves – a football glove company – my husband, Jeff Beraznik, and I partnered with fourth-generation owner Rob Storey in 2010. We recently built a new, state-of-the-art production facility in Nocona, Texas that includes a small museum and retail store, and we offer factory tours. People visit us from all over the world to see how a ballglove is made.
How did they come up with the idea?
The Nokona brand is built around ballgloves, quality, and American craftsmanship. Our company is tightly associated with America’s pastime, and our customers love our unique leathers and heritage. In addition to expanding the ballglove offering and making ongoing improvements, we decided to return to Nokona’s roots in leather goods. Our first product was ShowBeltsTM, highly customizable belts worn by hundreds of professional players, and adapted for lifestyle wear off the field, and we now offer a full line including belts for men and women, wallets, bags, backpacks, and other accessories. Nokona Leather Goods are the ultimate blend of classic American craftsmanship with modern style and design.
How can this transform the world or our day-to-day lives?
Today’s consumers are smart and have many choices – all of our decisions start from that place, and we work hard to delight our customers in every way that they engage with our company. From our product offering to the many customization options, to new items and our extraordinary customer service, we take pride in exceeding expectations; it’s a goal! We stand behind all of our products and are proud to be American-made. Customers tell us that they feel good about purchasing Nokonas, knowing that they’re participating in our longstanding heritage, and having confidence that these handcrafted leather goods can be passed down for generations.
What do customers love most about the product?
In addition to the legendary ballglove leathers that are used in all of our items, and the fact that Nokona Leather Goods are 100% American-made, customers love the wide range of customization and personalization options we offer. Choose from many thread colors to add a name or monogram to a tote or backpack, and really make it your own. Design a ShowBeltTM, and you’ll select leather types, colors, edge paint, stitching, buckles, and personalization – our online tool makes it fun and easy for customers to design their own unique products. You can even choose your colors of authentic ballglove laces to create a Unisex Ballglove Lace Bracelet. Customers love engaging with the products they’re buying, and given that they’re all handcrafted right here, we have a quick turnaround time – that is appreciated especially during the busy gift-giving seasons like Christmas, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day.
