Starting your own business is tough, it takes focus, retooling your mindset, grit, and perseverance – you have to want it in your mind and in your heart, willing to make those sacrifices, doing what others won’t know so you can have what others don’t later. Many variables go into starting a business but perhaps the most important one is making it legal, but where do you start?
Luckily there’s Legalpreneur, founded by Andrea Sager. Sager is a 3x small business owner with her most recent exit at 10x her initial investment in under a year. After massively growing her law firm in 3 years, Andrea founded Legalpreneur, a bridge for the gap between legal resources and entrepreneurs at every stage of business. Her true passion is helping other entrepreneurs meet their fullest potential by leveraging the power of the law for an affordable price.

Why did you decide to start Legalpreneur?
I started my law firm to help business owners have affordable legal services. I noticed business owners still needed legal protection, but they still weren’t in a place to work 1-on-1 with an attorney. I started Legalpreneur to reach more business owners by giving them access to legal resources and more education.
What were some common issues/challenges you experienced from small business owners addressing with you?
Education is the big missing link. Many business owners don’t even know they need to legally protect their business because some don’t recognize they even have a business. For example, many creators don’t realize they need to protect their content, even if they’re not yet making money. Educating creators and what I like to call accidental business owners is huge!
What were some of your earlier business challenges, and how did you overcome them?
Every day is a new challenge! In the early days, a big challenge was ensuring we complied with each state’s rules regarding legal ethics.
What’s the number one thing any business owner can do to protect their business?
File a legal entity, normally a limited liability company (LLC), to protect their personal assets from any legal issues in the business. An LLC is a necessity even if a business owner is not yet making money. If something happens in the business that is cause for legal action before they’re an LLC, they do not get the LLC protection, even if they are an LLC when the lawsuit is filed.
What are the most common legal issues that small businesses run into?
We cover a few of these in one of our Legal Protection Playbook bonus videos. The number one pitfall is using a photo that doesn’t belong to them. No matter how pretty or how great the photo looks on social media or on your website, do not use a photo that does not belong to you or that you don’t have a license (permission) to use. That copyright infringement can haunt you years later, even if hardly anyone saw the photo.
This coming October in Phoenix, Arizona, The Legalpreneur will be hosting their annual Dream Bigger Conference with guest speakers, Danielle Canty of Bossbabe and Alli Webb of DryBar – a two-and-a-half day opportunity for anyone wanting to grow their mindset, challenge their potential, and ultimately, Dream Bigger with other entrepreneurs and business owners.

Why the Dream Bigger Conference, and what can attendees expect?
Dream Bigger is a culmination of the past 2 years of my life and my own transitions. I went through huge personal and professional transitions, and the biggest realization I had was that I was allowing life to go by when I knew I was meant for more. I finally started dreaming bigger for myself, personally and professionally. Many resources and people came into my life that I didn’t know I needed, many of which will be at the event. Attendees can expect to be challenged and called out in a way that will allow them to confront their own fears to trust that they can make their biggest dreams come true. The first step is actually to DREAM BIGGER!
