Fredericksburg Fitness Studio, a private personal training studio, offers a look at who can benefit from medical exercise programs

FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia – (July 25, 2022) – According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 20% of the adult population lives with chronic pain. For many people, it keeps them from enjoying life and being able to do the things they once did, including working. What many people don’t realize is that they may be able to benefit from a medical exercise program that is tailored to their needs. That’s precisely what Fredericksburg Fitness Studio does, helping people to reduce chronic pain and improve their quality of life.

“People are often surprised at the results they get when they stick to a medical exercise program,” Jennifer Scherer, medical exercise specialist, certified personal trainer, and owner of Fredericksburg Fitness Studio. “It may be the missing link that can help people get back to feeling better and being able to do more.”

Many research studies point to the fact that exercise can help reduce chronic pain for a wide variety of conditions. Depending on the issue someone suffers from, ranging from back or knee pain to shoulder or hip pain, some exercises have been shown to bring about some relief.

A June 2022 study published in the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy, shared the findings of a review of 118 trials that took place involving nearly 10,000 patients. The study found that all types of physical exercises were effective for improving pain and disability, except for stretching exercises (for reducing pain). They found that the most effective exercises for reducing pain were Pilates, mind-body, and core-based exercises. The most effective exercises for reducing disability were Pilates, strength, and core-based exercises.

Fredericksburg Fitness Studio works with patients who have been given a release from their chiropractor or physical therapist. Their Medical Exercise Training (MET) program is the next step that people take in the recovery process. Through medical exercise and lifestyle education, participants achieve improved function, fitness, and cardiopulmonary health.

Medical exercise can benefit those with chronic, cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic (thyroid, diabetes), or musculoskeletal conditions such as low back pain, arthritis, and osteoporosis. There is a wide variety of conditions that can benefit from medical exercise, including these five:

1) Spinal conditions, such as spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, cervical strain, spinal fusion, etc.

2) Lower body injuries and conditions, including piriformis syndrome, IT band syndrome, knee replacement, hip replacement, etc.

3) Upper body injuries, including rotator cuff tear, impingement syndrome, golfer’s/tennis elbow, bicipital tendonitis, etc.

4) Bone and joint conditions, such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.

5) Neurological/other conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, etc.

“If someone has a medical condition that is keeping them from being more active or in pain, there is a good chance a medical exercise program can help,” added Scherer. “Our programs are 90 days, providing therapeutic services to help manage chronic diseases and help people feel better. We offer private and group classes and a maintenance program once the initial one is completed.”

The center also offers Pilates, which helps improve overall health, strengthens the mind, body, and spirit connection, and provides various physical benefits. These include improving mood, balance, flexibility, energy levels, core strength, bone strength, and reducing back pain and stress. It also helps with injury prevention.

Fredericksburg Fitness Studio is a private personal training studio that offers a range of services to improve health and wellness, including medical exercise, personal training, in-home medical training, virtual personal training, nutrition coaching, and a Pilates reformer program. All workouts on it are custom-tailored for the individual to address their physical fitness concerns. The Pilates Reformer program features a versatile machine designed to provide resistance. It can be used with the person standing, sitting, or lying down.

Fredericksburg Fitness Studio doesn’t offer memberships as other gyms do. They offer private customized fitness programs that are available by appointment. Many people who go to the studio are referrals from physical therapists and doctors. The wellness professionals at the studio communicate with the medical teams to keep them up to date on patient progress.
