An Interview with Lola Violet about the career.
What is your name?
Lola Violet
Do you have a preferred title (producer, rapper, influencer, etc.) that you’d like us to use?
independent artist
What is your personal background and experience?
I started playing the piano when I was 7 years old, though I wasn’t too serious about practicing at first. Things changed when I turned 16. That’s when I really started to get into music, learning piano chords and really focusing on my skills. That passion quickly spread to other instruments like the guitar, bass, and ukulele. Since then, my commitment to music has only grown stronger, and it’s been an integral part of my life ever since.
What inspired you to start your business or become involved in this industry?
I first started writing music when I was 16, during my high school years and quickly fell in love with performing. It was during the downtime caused by COVID-19 that I really had the opportunity to focus on my music. Seeing many other young artists sharing their work on TikTok inspired me to give it a try myself. I downloaded the app and started posting my songs as an artist, and from there, my music began to gain traction. It was so much fun and interesting to see how people connected with my work, and that encouragement played a big role in my decision to pursue a music career more seriously.
What challenges or obstacles have you faced in your career or business, and how have you overcome them?
Facing rejection has been a constant in my journey, with many people not believing in my potential—some still don’t. It’s tough, especially when you’re trying to make a mark in such a competitive field. Also, being completely self-managed without a team, label, or manager has its own set of challenges. It means I handle everything from booking events to managing my social media, which can be very overwhelming at times. Instead of allowing rejection to get me down, it motivates me to work even harder and trust in my own path. I’ve embraced the independent route, learning as I go, and it has only made me more determined and self-reliant.
What sets you apart from others in your industry, and what unique perspective do you bring?
What really distinguishes me in the music industry is that I manage myself, handling everything from the business side to the creative process, which isn’t very common. I genuinely enjoy connecting with my fans by making it a point to interact with them personally. Almost every day, I live-stream for about four hours, singing, chatting, and doing fun things with my viewers. This direct line of communication not only strengthens our connection but also gives me immediate feedback and support, which has been invaluable.
What are some notable career highlights?
Some notable career highlights definitely have to be when I charted on the international Indonesia, radio chart for three consecutive weeks! another big one is when I signed a brand deal with Lanikai ukuleles and became an official Lanikai artist. I also recently hit 100 million streams across all platforms which has been a huge accomplishment for me!
Do you have any personal anecdotes or stories that you would like to tell?
I really feel that this EP almost just wrote itself. I began working on it during a period of heartbreak, which, as it turned out, gave me more to express than I initially realized. Once I stepped into the studio, the songs just started pouring out. It was remarkable how quickly everything came together, as though each track seemed to write itself. This spontaneous flow of creativity was not only cathartic but also incredibly exciting to witness as each song took shape.
Where do you see yourself in a few years? What are some of your dreams and aspirations?
In the next few years, I envision taking my music global. One of my biggest dreams is to go on a world tour, performing and connecting with fans from different cultures and backgrounds. This idea of touring the world is why I keep pushing to continually evolve my sound and reach out to a broader audience. I’m committed to making music that resonates with people universally, and a world tour would be a dream come true.
