Mistakes beginning actors make while acting

Here are the Top 5 lesser-known tips and mistakes beginning actors make when acting

1 Neediing “acting “experience to act

Practice makes perfect, this is 2022. There are too many ways to get into acting without being in a film or movie. Starting a Youtube channel or TikTok, watching and doing skits, is a very good start. You don’t even need a big follow, just do it for yourself to look back to. Ask yourself this. If I put a camera in front of my face and played a small 30-second clip of playing a character, whether it’s you crying because someone you loved died or being really happy because you’re talking to a good friend you haven’t seen in years, would you be able to do it? The clips don’t have to become public, watch them yourself and see what you can do to better your acting. Or post them and let an audience see. You can do it on TikTok to watch other improv videos for reference.

2 Having or paying for an agency from the start

Getting an agent from the very start can be a mistake it depends on how far or how serious you want to be an actor, but paying for one is THE biggest mistake you can make. Websites like backstage and actor access are an excellent start to applying for a role, or public agencies like extra management will find Background for you. The only downfall is that some are 20 to 100 dollars a month and only work in big cities like LA, NY, and ATL I can honestly wright a whole article about this alone. The only thing you might need to pay is a phone to take pictures of yourself and to take reels, a monthly subscription for the website I mention, and transportation to get to those gigs.

3 Having an upbeat, positive persona when talking to or meeting crew(casting directors, other actors, camera crew)

Now I’m not saying to be all sunshine and rainbows 24/7 But being outgoing or having some confidence that makes you stand out just a little will help. think about it like this anyone who works in the background works sees hundreds of faces at a time and may talk to a hand full of people. You don’t want to bother anyone, but having small talk with other actors, the camera crew, or the assistance can make a difference from you being a one-off bg actor to maybe getting one line you never know.

4 Enjoy the process. You can’t please everyone

Have fun but take it seriously it’s still a job that pays for the most part. Being an actor involves letting your emotions bleed out and forming a character. Ultimately, if you are not having fun, it will get harder and harder to act in the long run.  You will get a lot of noes and yeses but don’t let that stop you.  You will get a lot of backfires. The best way to deal with this is to learn from them and use it for the next audition or BG work.

5 Moving to a big city

Moving to LA or NY can be life-changing and very fun. But not everyone has the money to do so. Of course, if you have the chance do so as it will help but staying in your home town isn’t a bad idea at first. I moved to LA 5 months after I decided to pursue acting. I lived in co-living houses, which came at a cost, and stayed in living rooms for just over a year. Did I love it? No, not really (sharing a kitchen or bathroom with 12 + people in a house isn’t the best ), but if I never moved there, I wouldn’t have the experience in the work I did for Netflix, Disney, and other BG work I did.
