November: A Month of Thanks

Once again, we find ourselves nearly wrapping up another year. As we enter the month of November, we begin to notice a few things. First, the leaves from the trees begin to turn from the lively color of green, to the doleful color of brown. Next, we start to notice and feel the weather cool, thus causing most people to switch from their t-shirt and shorts, to their jeans and jackets. While these can be positive changes for people, it is most important to mention that the month of November is not just about the changing leaves, or the change of clothing, but rather, November is a month of thanks, and we all certainly have something or someone to be thankful for.

Whether it is a friend, family member, or pet, everyone has someone or something that they can look back on and appreciate for having in their lives. For example, I am thankful for my family. I was fortunate to be raised in a loving and caring family, with a mother and father, along with a younger sister. In addition, I am also thankful for having lived another day, breathing, and soaking in all that life has to offer. For each person, their thanks might be different, but what we all have in common is that need and that passion to be thankful, because there is no better feeling than knowing that you have something to be thankful for, as well as having made an impact on at least one other person’s life.

The month of November can be a blissful one, although the rapid change in color of nature all around us might cause a rather opposite feeling. In November, we have the holiday of Thanksgiving, a holiday that most, but not all people celebrate. Thanksgiving is naturally a joyous holiday, where families gather around, and eat plentiful food, and reminisce on the year’s good and bad moments. Thanksgiving is also a day of thanks, where the world stops for a moment, and time does not exist, only those around you, friends and family that you love the most.

November is also the month before December, or the month before Christmas and New Years’. In November, you will find most stores filled with a combustion of turkeys, and fall decor, along with Santa, and all things Christmas. Oftentimes, you will find these extravagant holiday mixes prior to the month of November, as soon as Halloween is over, and October has seen its last days. Although these are happy and optimistic things to look forward to, we must not forget that for some, the holiday season can bring about moments of sadness over lost loved ones. To those, I provide my gratitude and my sorrow, as the strong have been able to survive another year of attempting to move forward in their lives.

All in all, November is a month that stands alone from others, as the month of changing nature and of giving thanks. So, whether it is a friend, family member, or pet, remember to thank those who have come into your life and changed it for the better. Those people deserve to know.
