Tell us about the founder. What is their background?
Laurie O’Hara is a self-described accidental entrepreneur. I have a background in marketing in financial services but I did a complete career pivot and took my love of the outdoors into creating a clean CPG brand focused on the protection of people and the planet. My children, and enjoying water sports, together were my inspiration to make OLITA a clean and affordable sun care choice for families. I have been doing this full-time since 2019 and have never looked back.
How did they come up with the idea?
I would go to local beaches near my home in Marin County, CA with my little children. I took the surfer secret of using Baby Powder to get rid of sand and sticky saltwater and developed my own formula for Beach Be Gone body powder. I did a lot of trial and error, sourcing ingredients and packaging, and doing a bunch of testing on family and friends, to ultimately create an innovative new product category that people love. Why? Because it really works to dry rinse sand, sweat, and saltwater from the skin. From there, OLITA went on to create clean sunscreens, after sun, and lip balms to fill the void in clean sun care options.
How can this transform the world or our day-to-day lives?
OLITA is on a mission to be the cleanest sun care brand on earth. We are doing this by using clean and environmentally safe ingredients, using bio-sourced and recycled plastic packaging, using carbon-neutral shipping, and giving back to ocean conservation with every sale.
