On The Go PB&J That Fitness Junkies Are Raving About

KRAM Innovation

What problem does PB&J solve?

The obesity rate In America is 42%, 37.3 million Americans have diabetes, with 1.4 million diagnosed yearly, and 96 million Americans age 18 and older have pre-diabetes. 92% of the US population has at least one vitamin deficiency. Energy-rich but nutrient-poor processed foods are causing Americans to be overfed and undernourished. We created KRAM peanut butter and jelly sandwiches because the convenient food category is riddled with ultra-processed ingredients and lacks nutritional density. We solve this problem by using Sprouted organic whole wheat bread that is easy on the stomach and isn’t stripped of its micronutrients. We also use peanut butter and organic all-fruit jelly and add a mineral complex to improve the nutrient density. Our “BEAST” version also includes whey protein and colostrum to increase nutrient density and protein.

How can this transform the world or our day-to-day lives?

Our country is on a bad trajectory that will lead to more disease and sickness if we keep eating ultra-processed foods. Our country spends $327 billion annually, directly attributed to diabetes. This is just diabetes! Other diseases are attributed to unhealthy diets/foods, like heart disease and hypertension. If we don’t have more companies willing to change the American Food System, we will bankrupt the country. This may seem hyperbolic, but it’s true. We chose to be a part of this movement and provide a product to help solve this problem. Additionally, we are using recycled packaging, donating our waste to farms, and supporting and donating to regenerative agriculture movements to transition to all regenerative ingredients eventually.

We believe time and health are invaluable. Providing healthy and convenient options can free up time in someone’s day to be able to do something more important than making a PB&J.

Ruth and Austin Entrepreneur

Tell us about the founder. What is their background?

Mother and son duo Ruth and Austin. Ruth worked in the corporate world for 25 years while raising 3 children. She has always been a health enthusiast and athlete. She moved away from the corporate world and became a Functional Nutritionist. Austin’s a true entrepreneur and always dreamed of having his own company. His focus in college was nutrition, he is an incredible cook and baker and has been making delicious food since he was very young. He is also an athlete. They both lead very active lifestyles and always have health and wellness at the forefront of their lives.

How did they come up with the idea?

We noticed that most kids and adults (especially athletes) eat PB&Js regularly, and the only prepackaged option available is an ultra-processed, sugar-ridden, micronutrient-empty product. The millennial generation knows that eating processed foods can lead to obesity and nutrient deficiencies and has been practically begging for better-for-you products. We saw the people around us eating similar products on the market because that was the only option available but wanted something better. So we started prototyping recipes and handing them out to friends and family. When we got to the point where they liked our PB&Js better than Uncrustables, we knew we were onto something. So in 2021, we launched our truly healthy and incredibly delicious PB&Js. Then, we decided to build our own manufacturing facility and have been pumping out PB&Js to the masses. We continue to grow at a rapid pace and will be launching other products and flavors.

Reviews

What do customers love most about the product?

Our customers love that they can eat healthy on-the-go food that tastes amazing and fuels their bodies for their daily activities. We have also been praised for having recycled packaging and added functional ingredients. Our active customers love that they can eat a nutrient-packed PB&J before/after their workout instead of other options, such as a protein bar.

Also, convenience is key with our customers, and it wouldn’t be easy to make these PB&J. Customers rather buy KRAM than take the time to try and make a healthy sandwich.
