“Jamu…jamu…jamu…jamu…” that’s the voice that is often heard from a woman carrying several natural herbal concoctions in her basket. Interestingly, these women selling jamu always use batik motifs when selling. Traditional and at the same time preserving culture. So it’s no wonder that jamu gendong itself has a place in society as a traditional medicine as well as a body’s immune system enhancer.
But did you know that these jamu gendong sellers use measurements in glass sizes? The concoctions that they mix are previously put into clear bottles and when they want to serve them to buyers, they mix them by pouring them into glasses. This is where it gets interesting. Although the way of mixing the herbal concoctions is unique without “precise measurements” but the benefits obtained by consumers can still be tolerated.
It’s different if what is mixed is a hard drug and even if the drug has a reaction between one concoction and another, then for something like this there must definitely be knowledge. In the world of education, the science of mixing drugs is called pharmacy.
Getting to Know the World of Pharmacy
Have you ever visited a university and seen students wearing white coats and practicing drugs? Even though it’s not in the medical faculty. Well, they could be pharmacy students.
While studying, these pharmacy students will learn about all aspects of the world of medicine, starting from learning drug theory, practicing drug manufacturing, how to identify types of drugs to how the drugs work for the healing process.
Maybe those who often go to the pharmacy to buy medicine always meet a pharmacist, the person responsible for the concoction and composition of the drugs given. Well, this pharmacist is one type of profession in the pharmaceutical field.
Apart from pharmacists, it turns out that there are still many professions in the pharmaceutical world, including drug development researchers, lecturers in the pharmacy department, product development specialists for both drugs and cosmetics, quality control for drug, food, or cosmetic companies, and as regulatory staff for government agencies such as BPOM. How about it? Isn’t this world of pharmacy really interesting?
Indonesian Pharmacist Association (PAFI)
Did you know that pharmaceutical science has produced many great and influential people in Indonesia? So, it is not surprising that these people have an organization called the Indonesian Pharmacist Association, abbreviated as PAFI.
PAFI itself was founded on February 13, 1946, in Yogyakarta as a forum to gather all experts in the pharmaceutical field. The objectives of the establishment of PAFI are:
1. Realizing a Just and Prosperous Society based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution
2. Realizing Optimal Health for the Indonesian People
3. Developing and improving pharmaceutical development in Indonesia
4. Improving the welfare of members
With this goal, it is not surprising that various regions in Indonesia have PAFI regional branches. One of them is pafikotatebingtinggi.org.

PAFI Tebing Tinggi for the Community
The city of Tebing Tinggi itself is located in the province of North Sumatra. The city of Tebing Tinggi is often nicknamed the City of Lemang. Based on data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in March 2023 showed that there were around 1407 health workers, and 92 of them were pharmaceutical workers. So, it is not surprising that the Indonesian Pharmacist Association of Tebing Tinggi is in this city. https://pafikotatebingtinggi.org
