What problem does the QUALIA SKIN solve?
Neurohacker Collective is one of the first major wellness startups to premise their entire product lineup on “complex systems science” (a novel approach that is emphasized on our website and podcast, Collective Insights). We believe that complexity science is the best model to hack human health and use complexity science as the basis for formulation design & testing.
To develop Qualia Skin, we set out to find a combination of ingredients that would collectively target multiple intersecting and complementary pathways that are important for healthy skin. So we studied skin structure and function, skin physiology, age-related skin changes, and the mechanisms involved in healthy skin aging. This allowed us to identify specific processes and pathways to target for intervention, and to find the ingredients with the right mechanisms of action to support those pathways.
We then evaluated over 80 ingredients – ranking each of them according to their efficacy and mechanism of action. And in the end, we selected the highest-ranking ingredients to create a new skin support formula. The final result: Qualia Skin – a curated blend of 21 nutrients that work through complementary and synergistic actions to transform the skin from the inside out (supporting multiple skin parameters such as elasticity, firmness, hydration, glow, and overall resilience).
Tell us about the founder. What is their background?
James Schmachtenberger is the co-founder and CEO of Neurohacker Collective, a company focused on making groundbreaking products for health and well-being through complex systems science.
The company began with a focus on cognitive products with the launch of Qualia Mind; and since, has developed products to support sleep, longevity, skin, energy, vision, and immunity. James was motivated to start Neurohacker Collective by his own personal struggles to withstand the mental and emotional exhaustion common in fast-paced entrepreneurialism.
How did they come up with the idea?
At Neurohacker our mission is to advance the human quality of life. We do that by supporting every element of human optimization. And with the skin being the largest organ in our body, we believe that it deserves significant attention.
We created Qualia Skin to address the age-related changes that affect skin health uniquely. We applied the same advanced methods from our Qualia products (our meticulous sourcing and science-based formulation process) to take skin health to another level.
To design Qualia Skin, we studied skin structure and function, the physiology of the integumentary system, and the changes the skin goes through as it ages. We then selected a set of ingredients that could support the main mechanisms involved in healthy skin aging.
How can this transform the world of our day-to-day lives?
We are best known for pioneering research in the field of nootropics and all things related to brain health. Yet, the overarching aim of Neurohacker is to not only optimize brain health but all body systems that directly impact mental and emotional well-being.
Like the gut-brain axis, the skin-brain connection is emerging as the latest axis of related body systems garnering increased public focus. The skin-brain axis is a bidirectional communication system – the skin sends information to the brain which influences its health, and the brain likewise sends information to the skin which influences its health. This interconnection is the driving force behind our new skin product. After all, why would a group of neuroscientists be interested in beauty?
With the introduction of Qualia Skin, Neurohacker is early to the skin-brain market, both in terms of product and content. We are hoping to emerge as a major player catapulting skin-brain education and product formulation into the mainstream of health-conscious culture in 2022.
What do customers love most about the product?
Customers love that Qualia Skin is full of clinically researched ingredients, vegan, and designed to deliver beautiful skin from the inside out.
At Neurohacker, we believe that “beta testing” is one of the most vital steps in the product development process. So we invest heavily in pre-market beta testing to validate a product’s performance before it hits the market (i.e. tolerability and efficacy).
The beta test for Qualia Skin is an excellent case study. The test showed that nearly 80% of users (n= 52) experienced a significant improvement in skin firmness, hydration, and elasticity over 12 weeks of supplementation. These results underscore the product’s launch readiness and (hopefully in time) will help improve user satisfaction.
