Meet the Founder
Gaston Martinez, a native of Durango, Mexico, founded IZO Spirits in 2017 and is committed to sharing the essence of Mexico with the world. He is a true testament to the unique voices in which we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Having graduated with a business degree from Universidad Iberro Americana in Mexico City, Gaston worked in various sectors in the country, including international freight and logistics, and later as a pottery manufacturer. He moved to San Diego in 2005 while working in the restaurant and hospitality industries and soon found his passion in the wine and spirits markets. A natural entrepreneur with a knack for sales and developing key industry relationships, Gaston brought his vision to life of celebrating his Mexican roots in the form of all-natural mezcal for which his hometown is known.
“IZO began with Mezcal, a cultural symbol of celebration and the pure enjoyment of life,” says Gaston. “As we work to expand our handcrafted selection, we’re always paying close attention to the preservation of precious resources, the well-being of our community, and how our product honors its historical narrative – these are all part of the proud heritage we want to bring to San Diego and the world.”
