The Racing Awards took place in London on November 20, with the top thoroughbreds awarded for their achievements in the 2024 flat racing season. These horses captured the headlines regularly throughout their respective campaigns, with their immense ability making them regular favorites in online horse racing betting.
There are eight categories up for grabs at the prestigious event. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at this year’s winners.
City Of Troy – Horse of the Year & Three-year-old colt
The winner of the two-year-old colt prize last year, City Of Troy was the star of the illustrious awards night—taking home the top honor Horse of the Year and the three-year-old colt accolade.
Blips in the 2000 Guineas and the Breeders’ Cup Classic didn’t put voters off the Aidan O’Brien-trained horse.
Victories in the Derby, Sandown Eclipse, and Juddmonte International were enough to see City Of Troy fend off the likes of Arc de Triomphe winner Bluestocking to the Horse of the Year award.
Sprinter – Bradsell
There was no swansong for Bradsell in the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar either in November, as he finished last of 11 runners in the Grade 1 Turf Sprint.
However, that didn’t take the gloss of Archie Watson’s superstar sprinter’s campaign, as he won three times over five furlongs—twice at Grade 1 level—and finished runner-up at Longchamp.
Bradell, who was the first three-year-old to win the King’s Stands Stakes in 15 years at Royal Ascot in 2023, will stand at the National Stud in Newmarket.
Stayer – Kyprios
After being sidelined for much of last season, returning late but lacking fitness in his two starts, Kyprios was back firing on all cylinders this campaign to reclaim his stayers’ crown.
The six-year-old, also trained by O’Brien, went on a mammoth run of seven straight victories—including a second success in the Ascot Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup, Irish St. Leger, and Prix du Cadran.
Three-year-old filly – Porta Fortuna
Another horse who failed to make her presence felt at the prestigious Breeders’ Cup, Porta Fortuna, was named the top three-year-old filly after three Group 1 wins in a row this year.
Trained by Aidan’s son Donnacha, Porta Fortuna was second in the 1000 Guineas before winning the Coronation Stakes, Falmouth Stakes, and Matron Stakes in succession.
Two-year-old colt – Shadow Of Light
Charlie Appleby’s third winner of this award since 2019, Shadow Of Light scooped the two-year-old colt prize after shining bright this year.
The juvenile won two relatively lowkey affairs before finishing second in Group 2 at York. But he put that behind him, becoming only the third horse to win both the Middle Park and the Dewhurst.
Two-year-old filly – Lake Victoria
A British- or Irish-trained horse who did manage to prevail at Del Mar, Lake Victoria took her unbeaten career to five successive wins in the valuable Juvenile Fillies’ Turf.
Once again trained by Aidan O’Brien, Lake Victoria left onlookers in awe with her performances this year—including in the Moyglare and Cheveley Park—and is the favorite for the 1000 Guineas.

Older horse – Charyn
With Group 1 victories in the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marios at Longchamp and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot, Charyn was crowned the best older horse.
Roger Varian’s charge was retired after finishing fifth of 17 runners in the Japanese Mile Championship and will stand as a sire in France.
Jessica Harrington was also awarded an Order of Merit on the night.
