What problem does The Joggle Factory solve?
Our joggling boards solve multiple problems. First, in its functionality. Porches are getting smaller in new homes. At only 19inches wide the joggling board fits most slender porches where other furniture is too large. A joggling board breaks down into 3 pieces and can be moved to other locations to add amble seating at a new venue like in the backyard during a neighborhood party. Second, it’s community building. A joggling board seats multiple people, rather than a chair for one. A joggling board is meant to be placed on a front porch where the family can sit to enjoy an evening while giving them the opportunity to meet their neighbors. With Covid-19 came isolation, and building back our circles and neighbors is very important to us. Lastly, a joggling board is made with 100 % sustainable products painted with no VOC paint all in the US. A customer can feel good having a piece of American-made furniture without feeling the guilt about where or what the product is made of or where it came from.
Tell us about the founder. What is their background?
Husband and wife, Chris and Kristi Outland founded The Joggle Factory in 2010. Before starting The Joggle Factory, Chris was a fireman/EMT with our local emergency service in South Carolina. Kristi was a nutritionist for the local government agencies. On their off time, Chris would study furniture building and practice building different pieces at the couple’s home.
How did they come up with the idea?
Chris and Kristi did not come up with the idea, in fact, a joggling board has been around for over 200 years. At their wedding in 2009, there was a joggling board on the front porch of the beach home where they were married. Days leading up to the event the couple and their friends always found themselves swaying on the joggling board every evening. Chris decided he wanted to buy one for his bride for their new home. He hit multiple dead ends while trying to purchase one, so he decided to build one for himself. At the time a joggling board was a dying staple of Charleston, SC, and only offered to the affluent. The couple decided a joggling board should be for everyone and everywhere.
How can this transform the world or our day-to-day lives?
A joggling board can transform the world by offering a family member, a friend, or a new neighbor a seat. By swaying together on a joggling board we can build relationships and our community. We are bringing the front porch back. The front porch is the welcoming part of our home. By adding a joggling board to your porch you are inviting friends and neighbors to your home.

We have two kinds of customers: our locals and our out-of-towners. But they all have the same thing in common. They love bringing a piece of Charleston, SC to their porch. In the South, we are known for our hospitality and generosity, and there is nothing more inviting than a joggling board.
