What problem does SEAAV solve?

It’s easy to fall into the cycle of fast fashion, but Mckenna knew she wanted to take the route of transparency and thoughtful production to bring you clothing you can feel good about every step of the way. SEAAV treats workers fairly and utilizes eco-friendly packaging and materials made from recycled plastics. In fact, each purchase you make removes 1 pound of plastic from the ocean & 1% is donated to saving the reefs.

Tell us about the founder. What is their background?

Mckenna graduated from Quinnipiac University ’21, with a Bachelor in Advertising + Integrated Communications, minoring in Entrepreneurship + Small Business Management. While attending QU in the Accelerated Dual Degree Program as an Honor Student, she was a finalist in the RICE Business Plan Competition, Draper Competition, EO GSEA, EFest, and TCU Neeley School Of Business Values & Venture Competition. Notably winning CT Entrepreneur of the Year 20′ and WBENC’s Collegiate Accelerator Grant 21′ sponsored by Walmart + FedEx. Mckenna also competed as a Division 1 NCAA Rugby Athlete and is a Canadian National Champion for 7’s + 15’s. Played on select teams across Canada, the U.S.A, New Zealand, Barbados, and Colombia. Mckenna has been immersed in the fashion industry since she was sixteen, modeling for multiple high-end brands. Mckenna held the title of Miss Teenage Vancouver Island and Top 10 Miss Teenage Canada where she raised thousands of dollars for KidSport and Free the Children.

How did they come up with the idea?

Mckenna has always considered the ocean her home. At the age of just twelve, she noticed the damaging effects of plastic and trash and knew she wanted to make a difference. In college, her combined love of fitness, fashion, and (of course) the ocean came together to make SEAAV.

How can this transform the world or our day-to-day lives?

Consumers want athletic leisure that not only meets their fashion and functional needs but also has the desire to purchase products that are sustainable and affordable. Thus, the athletic apparel industry is in need of a sustainable upgrade. The New York Times stated, “More than 60% of fabric fibers are now synthetics, derived from fossil fuels. The main factors that the fast fashion industry looks at are cost, efficiency, and resource limitations.” Additionally, there are unnaturally high prices in the activewear industry and the majority of these fast fashion brands are disconnected from a larger social impact.

Mckenna’s goal by 2025 is to divert one million plastic bottles from our shorelines through ocean clean-up initiatives. With more responsibly made products to come and constant innovation, SEAAV strives to make waves — in our oceans and the fashion industry as a whole.

What do customers love most about the product?

SEAAV is ocean-kind, activewear! It’s high-quality, buttery-soft, and sustainably made from recycled plastic bottles! Not to mention, SEAAV is the most affordably priced ethically made athletic wear on the market. For example, our top-selling Onyx Bike Shorts retail at $35.
