Song Review: “Catch Me If You Can” by Cousin Louie

Cousin Louie, a rapper from the Illinois side of Mississippi in St. Louis, has been making waves this year with his LP, Catch Me If You Can, which was released in January. A total of twelve tracks run for approximately 32 minutes, and the project indeed puts the hip-hop game on notice.

Cousin Louie has consistently been adamant that he can achieve anything he sets his mind to, managing all of his projects on his own, from producing and engineering to performing. And Catch Me If You Can encourage such kind of thinking by giving listeners the impression that they can do almost anything.

Cousin Louie narrates tales from many perspectives, including personal ones, that all go into detail and project a righteous and edgy tone. He certainly commands your attention as his vocal tone, cadence and inflections project an aura of confidence that gravitates you to the tracks.

Ethereal synth melodies and hard-hitting 808’s accomplished by the motivational raps and catchy hooks underlay the stories being told from his experience. Cousin Louie’s transition to music was driven by his love for all genres of music and the inspiration he took from living in 11 different states and 2 countries. He shares, “I just felt each city I lived in had their own energy and vibe and I soaked it all up, and I really feel the album captures that diversity in sounds and harmonizes those sounds within a hip-hop pallet.”

Blazing the mic with wordplay and straight-up in-your-face bars, Cousin Louie delivers a big-time record, another top-notch production in his expanding catalog. “Catch Me If You Can” is available for streaming worldwide, including Spotify.
