Song Review: “Hate Me When I’m Gone” by MBM

Florida-based emcee MBM has released his new song “Hate Me When I’m Gone.” This is a song that will be best enjoyed by listeners who appreciate rap and pop music. Additionally, it is a much-needed song for anyone struggling to end a relationship or come to terms with past failures in a relationship.

“Hate Me When I’m Gone” begins with an instrumental that originates with guitars before adding synths into the mix. Eventually, listeners will hear MBM’s vocals emerge on top of this instrumental, which they will come to find will fit his vocals and the theme of the song well. He begins with the chorus, which starts with the repetition of the line “Hate me when I’m gone / can you just hate me when I’m gone,” which takes listeners by surprise as clearly, that not everyone strives to be hated by anyone. At times, he follows up this line with “Cause it would be too much know’ve loved me all along.” This is the line that truly defines the song as well as proves MBM’s abilities as a songwriter. In the verses, MBM looks back at a failed relationship, notably requesting of his ex-companion at the end of the first verse “Can you do one thing for me/Can you hate me.” Lyrically this is a unique song that will remain with listeners even after hearing it.
