Song Review: “Man You Want Me To Be”

Ralph Curtis has released his new song, “Man You Want Me To Be.” The Naples, FL-based singer-songwriter has proven to fans and new listeners alike that he is capable of putting out music with thought-provoking lyrics and intrinsic melodies. Fans of country music, particularly country pop music, will surely enjoy listening to this song.

“Man You Want Me To Be” opens with a rather slow piano instrumental, leading listeners to wonder if this song will be a piano ballad or if it will build into something bigger. Soon after, Ralph Curtis enters with the first lyrics: “Ten months, six days, three long nights/Waited all year for the time to be right.” Right from the beginning, listeners will realize that Ralph Curtis sets out to tell a story in the lyrics to “Man You Want Me To Be.” His ability as a storyteller translates well into his songwriting and allows him to connect with listeners. He creatively closes out the chorus with “No I can’t offer much/But I can be the man you want me to be,” immediately followed by the introduction of the drums. At this point, it becomes clear that although “Man You Want Me To Be” starts as a piano ballad, it slowly picks up the pace as the song continues. Ralph Curtis’s vocal delivery is harmoniously mellow and projects an appealing authenticity that rings through the soundscape. He states his viewpoints straight from the heart, making them easy to absorb.
