Song Review: “Stay” by Shawn Cook

Grammy-nominated rapper Shawn Cook has released his new song called “Stay.” This song would make a perfect listen for anyone who enjoys hip-hop music. It is also a great listen for anyone who enjoys songs that lyrically speak about wanting a girl to stay and songs supplemented with catchy synth beats.

Shawn Cook has already released a music video for “Stay.” This music video begins by overlooking a city before panning to him sitting on steps by a building. He stands up and starts walking as the first verse starts, during which the camera pans back and forth between him and a girl. Key lines such as “Love me just for who I am, no judgment” tells listeners what he hopes this girl will do for him. In the chorus, Shawn Cook repeats the lines “Stay for a while/Stay/Don’t leave now,” a fundamental choice of words that drives home the message and allows anyone to follow along.

There is notably a major beat switch around the 2:15 mark of the song, where Cook begins to rap in a different style, including notable lyrics like “Spend it all and I make more.” By the end of the video, viewers will see Shawn Cook meeting the girl in a room. The song ends suddenly as he lies down on the ground and wraps his arms around her.
