Tell us about the founder. What is their background?
Founded by Jack and Dec. Jack’s background is in advertising and Dec’s background is in management and sales. Neither had ever worked in the food or candy industry. Jack was looking for a career change, loved the idea of sweetening the world with artisan candy, small-batch, and done in a retail environment. Candy making is an almost lost art, the thought of learning to make candy the old-fashioned way, having people watch how we make it, and being able to sample it while still warm felt magical. It was worlds away from working in advertising but still let jack develop a concept and brand only now he was getting to do it for himself. Much has changed since they opened their first candy studio down in Mexico City. The best-selling item at the shop were these old-fashioned candy pillows, made in fruit flavors but filled with chili lime and sea salt. These were to become Tamalitoz.
How did they come up with the idea?
The idea behind branding our candies Tamalitoz happened one day when a customer came into the shop and mentioned how these candies look like Tamalitos (or tiny tamales in Spanish). We thought we should call them Tamalitos and brand them Tamalitoz. It was not only a great description of the candy itself but it also reinforced our Mexicanity. Tamalitoz was born as a high-end Mexican candy, made in the purest and traditional form of candy making with a cool and colorful brand.
How can this transform the world or our day-to-day lives?
Tamalitoz is a flavor explosion l, starts off sweet and fruity, then you get hints of the chili lime and sea salt. Its flavor changes and intensifies. You finish one and you are ready for more. Tamalitoz brings joy and flavor to your day-to-day.
