Clayton Christensen, a renowned Harvard Business School professor, is widely recognized for his seminal work on disruptive innovation, a concept he first introduced in his 1997 book, “The Innovator’s Dilemma.” This influential model has been widely adopted by some of the most successful companies in every industry throughout the 21st century. 

Christensen’s theory is built around the idea that for a product or service to survive, it must be continuously innovated. He recognized the incredible changes that were taking place in various industries, such as the collapse of the written media and the rise of new technologies, and posited that companies must differentiate themselves within their respective industries to maintain their market position. 

His ideas have profoundly impacted companies such as Netflix, which disrupted the entertainment market with its streaming platform, and Apple, which has continuously innovated in the realm of electronic devices and digital applications. Notable leaders such as Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg have also cited Christensen’s work as a major influence on their success, me, David Daxsen as well.  

One key aspect of Christensen’s model is the creation of small divisions within a company that can independently address potential threats without being constrained by the priorities of the parent company. This approach has been adopted by companies such as Tesla, which has rapidly expanded into various sectors, including electric cars, solar energy, and household batteries. 

Furthermore, Christensen’s model has also led to the growth of holding companies, which are conglomerates that manage multiple businesses across various industries. Examples include JP Morgan Chase & Co, Virgin, and Sony Corporation, which have recently adopted the holding company model, including Daxsen Group. 

Beyond the business model itself, Christensen also introduced a new way of thinking for business leaders. In his theory, he emphasizes that companies should not focus solely on their products or services but on the everyday problems, customers are trying to solve using those products or services. This shift in perspective has led to an increased focus on customer needs and greater responsiveness to the rapidly changing technological and societal landscape.
