What problem does the Little Burlap Barn solve?
Being located in Southern California, there is a lack of sources to find vintage, antique, or salvaged home decor pieces with history or charm. The Little Burlap Barn strives to bring unique items to our customers by giving new life to old things and having items you can’t find anywhere else. They pride themselves in sourcing all items themselves by traveling the country on picking trips throughout the year, scouring everything from barns & basements to attics and antique stores to find the best stuff! From large harvest tables & chippy hutches to primitive pieces, vintage ladders, vintage clocks, books & more, they really have it all. They bring home some of the most one-of-a-kind items that add the perfect vintage touch to any home.
Tell us about the founder. What is their background?
Owner, Ashley, grew up in Southern California & has always had a love for old things since she can remember. She attended the University of Georgia where she got her Bachelors’s degree in History and went on to get her Master’s Degree in Classics and Ancient History in the UK from the University of Exeter. She spent several years living in Charleston, SC and spent her free time antiquing and decorating her home, always with a dream in the mind of opening her own home decor shop to inspire others. After moving back to Southern California, she decided to make her dream a reality and open The Little Burlap Barn in the Fall of 2018.
How did they come up with the idea?
Owning a home decor shop has always been a dream of Ashley’s, but she didn’t want to one just another home decor store: she wanted to open one that had things no one else had, a place that didn’t have mass-produced items just sitting on shelves but rather she wanted to create an inspiring space with one-off pieces full of history. You can’t get any more unique than offering vintage/antique pieces that are truly one-of-a-kind, some of which are over 150 years old! Owning The Little Burlap Barn combines Ashley’s love of travel, history & creativity all in one place.
How can this transform the world or our day-to-day lives?
Every home needs a little character and charm. Being able to decorate with unique vintage items, whether big or small, really makes a home special. TLBB customers know and appreciate that items they purchase are well-loved and have history. They can take home something and look at them every day in their space and know that no one else has that exact same thing (what a conversation starter!).
What do customers love most about the product?
TLBB customers love being able to find unique, one-of-a-kind pieces they can’t find anywhere else & because of that, they shop whether near or far. They love that The Little Burlap Barn sources all our own items, learning the history or story of an item along the way so they can then share those with the new owner (what stories they have heard!). In addition, TLBB customers love the merchandising & how they showcase simple ways of how to style old things in a fresh new way, giving off inspiration both in-store & on social media.
