Singing is distinguished from speaking by how the breath is expended to vibrate the vocal cords. Singing requires more breath, the louder, higher, and longer one sings. It also requires that the emission of breath be more firmly controlled. The singing technique depends on the coordination of the various anatomical mechanisms to produce a propulsion of sound in a steady flow. A further distinction between singing and speaking is the control required in singing, the movement and reflexes of the larynx. As one sings higher, the larynx rises sympathetically and, at a certain point, becomes an interference causing the voice to break or crack. When we think of the performing arts, we think of plays. The combination of the live performance and the script’s acting makes it a Performing art, right? Yes, but we did not know that Dance is also a performing art. Magic, music, and even movies are examples of the Performing Arts. When asking the question, we found ourselves learning about examples and different types of the arts rather than what the definition of performing art is. The variety of genres under Performing arts are constituted by the abstract qualities that make up a performing art;
