The luxury travel industry is on the rise, and travel accommodation platforms are jumping on the ever-growing trend of luxury travel – but where are the best locations to experience a luxurious and private travel experience?
To find this out, the team at Compare My Jet has delved into data from the travel booking site Airbnb (specifically, their luxe offerings).
They have used several different metrics, including many luxury accommodation options, the average price per night, and percentages that include top sought-after amenities, to rank the locations. The findings include:
- St Barth’s is the best luxury location worldwide
- Canada is the best location for a large-group luxury experience
- Belize, Croatia, and Indonesia are the least expensive locations for luxury
- The most expensive Luxe Airbnb’s available on-site are in France and Italy, costing over £20,000 per night
Study reveals St Barth’s is the best Luxury Airbnb destination worldwide
Compare My Jet’s ranking found that St Barths in the Caribbean is the top location for luxury Airbnb accommodation worldwide.
Belize comes second in the rankings due to having one of the lowest costs for luxury accommodation on Airbnb (£841 per night on average), and the majority of the luxury accommodation available have some of the most sought-after guest amenities.

Compare My Jet searched for the number of luxury Airbnb’s available with over eight beds to find out which locations have the most options for larger groups, such as wedding parties. They then ranked the locations in order of the highest percentage of accommodation available with 8+ beds.
Canada comes out in the top spot for its high percentage of luxury Airbnb accommodation that has over eight beds (68%), whilst Dominican Republic (60%) and Mexico (40%) come second and third, respectively.
Study finds Belize, Croatia and Indonesia are the least expensive locations for luxury
When looking at the average price per night for luxury stays on Airbnb, Compare My Jet found that certain locations saw a steep price difference compared to others for experiencing luxury Airbnbs.
Five least expensive locations for the average luxury Airbnb:
- Belize (San Pedro Town) – $949 (£841)
- Croatia – $1476 (£1,308)
- Indonesia – $1974 (£1,748)
- Greece – $2099 (1,859)
- St Lucia – $2142 (£1,897)
Airbnb’s top five most expensive accommodation options are in France and Italy.
Of the five most expensive luxury Airbnb’s found, all five sit within Europe – specifically within France and Italy. France is home to the most expensive luxury Airbnb – Chalet Le Coquelicot can be found in Saint-Bon-Tarentaise, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, and can be rented out for around £27.6k per night. The chalet goes above and beyond for amenities, including staff that can drive guests to the nearest ski lifts, wine cellar, and theatre.
