Upcoming US Sporting Events In 2024

Events

As we enter the second half of 2024, some of the top US sporting events on the calendar, such as the Super Bowl, the NBA All-Star Game, the Indy 500, and the Kentucky Derby, have already passed.

While many of these are the prominent fixture on the calendar for millions of American sports fans, and indeed many international fans who keep an eye on the US sporting calendar, do not fret; some significant dates are still lined up for the rest of 2024.

We’ve picked out the main ones to watch as we go into the second half of the year. While the selection might be missing some of the Marquis sporting events, such as the Super Bowl, but there are still a few to watch.

Copa America Finals

Many American soccer fans have been looking forward to the Copa America since it was announced a few years ago. For many, it will be a good test run for the 2026 World Cup. This year’s Copa America brings together all of South America’s top international soccer teams.

It runs parallel to the European Championships, but we’d say the Copa America is just as big of an international tournament. There are also over a dozen stadiums playing host to the action this July – so it’s a truly US event rather than taking place in one area or city. Soccer continues to grow in the US, with some analysts believing it will break into the monopoly of the Big Four within the next decade – so the Copa America is a good test to see the health of the sport and the sort of attendance it attracts.

Many fans are already looking ahead to the next World Cup in the US, and the Copa America will attract a considerable audience. It will bring many traveling South Americans over the border to support their national side and give Americans a taste of what’s to come in a couple of years.

A Big Sporting July

July is a big month, as it also coincides with the start of the Olympics and other top tournaments in the US – such as the World Series Of Poker. We appreciate that this isn’t a sporting event, but it’s a big one for many, and with Vegas being one of the locations for the Copa America games, we thought it deserved a mention.

It’ll be a big summer of betting action, and with the rise of casino gaming alongside some of the larger states legalizing sports betting, it’s set to be another big year for sports betting and casino gaming, too. Sweepstakes are another area of gambling generating a lot of interest in the US, especially in US states where legalized casino gaming isn’t regulated and legislated. New sweepstakes casinos offer the range that traditional casinos do. On this page: https://www.wsn.com/sweepstakes/new/, WSN have handpicked their favourite out of all sweeps casinos that’s been launched since the opening in 2023.

Still, you use their own in-game tokens instead of real money, which helps to circumvent the legislation that bans traditional casinos from operating within these state lines where it’s still not legal to operate.

New York – The Sporting Capital Of The US

At least for the second half of 2024, New York will be the hub for sporting events in the US. The two most significant dates on the calendar will be in The Big Apple in August and November, respectively. First up, we have one of the four tennis Grand Slams – and the final one in the calendar year, the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

This year’s tournament will be held over two weeks: the last week of August and the first week of September. Tennis is a big sport in the US, with many of its underlying industries generating millions in revenue. The US Open is by far the biggest tennis event in the US, attracting huge in-person, domestic television, and international tennis audiences.

Secondly, another New York and American sporting institution takes place in the penultimate month of 2024—the New York Marathon. In last year’s race, Tamirat Tola’s record-breaking run grabbed worldwide headlines

While the Boston and London marathons attract similar attention and gigantic numbers of entrants, these two New York-based sporting events are the biggest ones outside of the Big Four. You could argue that they’re in a separate bracket, given that they’re not US-centric in the same way the World Series or the Super Bowl is. However, let’s not start an argument, shall we?

Final Thoughts

There’s still a good range of events in the US sporting calendar. Our pick of the action is the Copa America. Not only will it feature the current World Cup champions and some of the finest players in the world, but it’ll also be a good test run for the 2026 World Cup and a great chance for American soccer fans to get a glimpse of some of the South American superstars in the game today.

It also covers over a dozen stadiums throughout the US, so it’s not specific to just one area or state. The New York Marathon and Flushing Meadows are guaranteed successes almost every year. Both are highly regarded in their sports and attract elite names looking to get ahead of their rivals, so there are still a lot of high-level sports to look forward to until this year is over.
