Tell us about the founder. What is their background?

Psyche Terry, Beauty Boss, and Beauty Queen, most recently crowned America’s Most Beautiful, 2022 Mrs. Texas is a fashion and beauty expert and co-founder and CEO of Urban Hydration. Terry earned an MBA from UNLV and a BA from Western Michigan University, where she funds scholarship programs for business students. She has sat on numerous boards of directors and has received accolades such as Woman of The Year, Economic Empowerer of the Year, and Philanthropist of the Year. Psyche has been featured in Good Morning America, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The Steve Harvey Show, ESPN, and Fox News.

A self-proclaimed “better maker,” Terry, and her husband started Urban Hydration to provide better-made packaged products for dry skin and hair. Founded as a small online store in 2010, today Urban Hydration products are sold in more than 30,000 retailers across the nation.

Driven by a dedication to community, giving back, and saving the planet through clean beauty, Urban Hydration committed to providing clean drinking water for communities in need through a keystone partnership with WATERisLIFE in 2016. With each purchase of an Urban Hydration product, one gallon of water is donated to a community without ready access to clean drinking water. Through an outpouring of consumer support, Urban Hydration generously contributed to the construction of four clean drinking water wells.

How did they come up with the idea?

Always having dry skin and dry hair led to multiple trips to the doctor’s office for Psyche & Vontoba. One day, while helping local nonprofit raise money selling candles and spa gift baskets, Psyche challenged them to create products she could actually use to make her beauty routine more natural, more fun, healthier, and more affordable.

After introducing the collection to friends, family, and their own children, the Terry’s were inspired to share their love for clean beauty across the nation. Today, millions of Urban Hydration products are sold in more than 10,000 retail stores across the nation. Best sellers include micellar cleansing water, honey shampoo & conditioner, castor oil shampoo & conditioner, aloe wash, and mud face masks.

How can this transform the world or our day-to-day lives?

Urban Hydration is now tackling not just facial care, but also care from head to toe by creating an entire clean beauty arsenal for its customers. Digging into the needs of our customer base, Urban Hydration discovered its consumers, especially Millennials, need gentle healing facial care, but also similar solutions for their bodies. Consumers, particularly moms past 25, find their bodies produce less collagen.

“This means that their skin needs a boost to recover from dullness, dark spots, and acne,” adds Terry. Urban Hydration’s plant-championing chemists solved the problem with fruit-based formulas that

are packed with vitamin C and collagen-producing ingredients like peach, papaya, mango, lime, and vanilla. “They’ve used ingredients that help remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, prevent butt acne,

‘bacne,’ and, more importantly, help renew skin cells with more strength and elasticity.” 

Additionally, we sought to address the annoying issue of hair loss. Building on our expertise in helping consumers with their curls, Urban Hydration is zeroing in on scalp care. The formulations in the company’s two new hair care collections — Aloe & Cucumber and Lemon & Honey — tap the power of plant- and fruit-based ingredients that help reduce oxidative damage and inflammation on

the scalp and skin.

What do customers love most about the product?

We’ve had the standard of clean beauty before it was popular and hip. Realizing that she couldn’t pronounce some of the scary ingredients in her body wash is what got our founder, Psyche to really look into only using ingredients that could be found in her kitchen pantry. Years later, we keep that same standard making sure that each of our products is paraben-free, silicone-free, phthalate-free, and silicone-free. We strive to use Coconut Oil, Vitamin A, and Vitamin E in just about every product we make.  We want you to feel safe using our products on yourself and your family, friends, and children like we do! Each of our items is mom tested and kid-approved.
