Why Cue is an American Hip-Hop songwriter and record producer from New York who first gained recognition for his production with Lil B. Cue went viral for his trippy single’s. “Drippin” being the one which amassed him over 2-million streams combined on YouTube & Spotify alone; building him a cult fanbase. Cue debuted on national radio play in 2017 when he and a partner had released a song called “I Get Around” which was spun on NYC’s Hot 97. This single was Co-signed by Xxxtentacion which he would repost on his page gaining the single some traction. For years he began rapping and shooting music videos in his local neighborhood just to fund his music career.

Cue has been involved in music for over a decade now and has built a fan base expanding all over the world. Growing up in a musical family made it easier; having a DJ as a father which quickly helped him gain an interest in music. Staying dedicated is what made him a public figure gaining many supporters, accumulating a following of over 200,000 fans across just social media by itself. Cue would get a co-sign from the Atlanta legend Shawty Lo in his early days who would appear as a co-host on a mixtape released in 2013. The New Yorker has released various singles in the past decade which are available in digital stores such as series from his project Xxotic. Cue has plans expanding his business and molding himself to be a household name.

We sat down with Why Cue to discuss his career and accomplishments as a musician.

Q: “When did you figure out you had a thing for music”

A: “For as long as I could talk I’ve been listening to music. It’s become part of my daily routine looking for new music. Before I started making music I remember having this Mp3 player when I was younger and I would load up a bunch of songs like Dip-Set, G-Unit & Young Money on it and bring it everywhere I went. I think that’s when I first fell in love with music”

Q: “When did you first start recording music?”

A: “I made my first song when I was 11 years old. It was only a freestyle and it wasn’t that good to me but I was so proud to hear myself on a beat rapping. I think that’s what made me want to dig deeper into music. It was a different feeling recording than just being a fan at that point and it made me driven for more. Being that my father was a DJ and my mom grew up with the Treacherous Three I felt like music was just destined for me to do”

Q: “What moment did you realize music was for you?”

A: “When I hit my first million views on YouTube. It was a life changing moment because I felt like I finally accomplished something for myself and it was a huge stepping stone for my career. Drippin was more than a song for me; it helped me realize my potential and what I can do when I take things seriously and really put my all into it. It was the first single off my project Xxotic that accumulated over 6 million streams on Spotify.”

Q: “If you weren’t doing music what would you be doing?”

A: “If it wasn’t for music I don’t know where I would be. I was heading down the wrong path at an early age and I feel as if picking up the mic saved my life. I watched a-lot of people I grew up with either get hooked on drugs or go to jail and I didnt want that same life for me. I really wanted to find something I was good at and just be consistent. Once I told myself I wanted to take music to the next level I never looked back. I had tunnel vision from that day on where it was all I thought about 24/7.”

Why Cue has collaborations with artists like Peso Peso, Nessly, Doggi Krazy and Kasher Quon and has done opening acts for artists such as French Montana, Bodega Bamz, Loaded Lux, Trizzy Track, Rucci, and more. He plans an upcoming tour along with many projects for 2022. If you’d like to know more about Why Cue you can follow him on Instagram @whycuespg
