SYRACUSE, New York – (April 4, 2024) – Whether you’re a die-hard science fan or just enjoy exciting events, those who live in the Syracuse area will not want to miss the total solar eclipse that will take place over Central New York on April 8, 2024. To celebrate the special event, WonderWorks Destiny is offering special hours from 10 am to 2 pm and is offering discounted tickets for all on April 8, with admission rates starting at only $10 per person, plus tax. Their interactive exhibits provide the perfect place for families to learn about the sun, moon, the solar system, and more before experiencing this phenomenon first-hand.
“This eclipse is going to make for a pretty exciting day here in Syracuse, so we’re looking forward to celebrating it with everyone,” says Jon Cascella, general manager at WonderWorks Destiny. “Come have some discounted fun at WonderWorks in the morning, then head outside to watch the eclipse in the afternoon. There won’t be another total solar eclipse in the U.S. like this until 2044!”
Locals, businesses, and visitors alike are gearing up for the eclipse, which will reach totality at 3:23 pm on April 8, 2024. Leading up to it, everyone is invited to celebrate the day’s big event with some hands-on learning at WonderWorks from 10 am to 2 pm. Purchase tickets at the door to receive the special discounted rates of $10 plus tax for WonderWorks Adventure tickets, $15 plus tax for the Canyon Climb Ropes Course, and $25 plus tax for VIP Combo tickets.
Those that explore the WonderWorks exhibits with the WonderWorks Adventure or VIP Combo ticket will have the chance to dive in to the many wonders of space in the Space Discovery Zone and learn more about the sun, moon, and the solar system. This area of the attraction has activities including Google Moon, the Astronaut Training Gyroscope, space trivia, and more. Guests can also climb into a replica Mercury Capsule and snap some pictures in an EVA space suit to get involved in the celebration.
After 2 pm, WonderWorks encourages guests to attend one of the outdoor eclipse viewing events around Syracuse to be a part of this rare scientific event. Syracuse is in the path of totality, meaning the moon will completely cover the sun, making the skies dark for just under 1.5 minutes. To see the eclipse, NASA recommends exercising various safety precautions during the partial eclipse phases before and after totality, including using eclipse glasses, a handheld solar viewer, or a special-purpose solar filter over camera lenses, binoculars, and telescopes. They also recommend several indirect viewing methods, such as a pinhole projector, which can be made right at home.
“This is a day you want to celebrate with the whole family. They will remember it for years to come,” adds Cascella.
WonderWorks features over 100 hands-on, STEAM-focused exhibits, an indoor, 70-foot-tall, suspended ropes course, laser tag, a 4D XD motion theater, the Wonder Zones, and more. WonderWorks Syracuse also offers annual passes, a discounted way to keep the fun going all year. The WonderWorks Annual Pass includes regular admission to WonderWorks and unlimited Canyon Climb Ropes Course visits. More information about the annual pass can be found online.
