See Worthy Is Changing The Stigma Of Patching

See Worthy Innovation

What problem does See Worthy solve?

The occlusion eye patch has been around for hundreds of years to treat amblyopia- or lazy eye when one eye is weaker than the other. The adhesive eye patch was created over 50 years ago and saw no change until See Worthy Patches, founder, Paige Brattin, noticed how much change it needed. By changing the shape, materials, and the way the adhesives were on the patch itself, she created a much more comfortable solution. The new and highly improved eye patches meant children were more willing to wear them since the delicate skin around the eye area was no longer chafing or bleeding and helped treat their condition.

How can this transform the world or our day-to-day lives?

If people cannot see, they cannot drive cars, work many jobs, or contribute to their communities the same as the rest of us. Sight matters. Helping people be able to see is impactful to all – even if it doesn’t affect one’s daily life personally. Through her work with awareness, legislation, and philanthropic endeavors to help make vision a priority in healthcare – Paige and See Worthy Patches has reached many communities worldwide. Seeing and who can see, affects all of us.

Paige Bradbury Brattin Entrepreneur

Tell us about the founder. What is their background?

Paige Bradbury Brattin has a MA in Education and has taught in various settings from elementary school through University. She has owned prior retail businesses, but Paige learned about product development and manufacturing when her daughter, Eddy, was 6 years old and needed to be treated for a severe case of amblyopia. As someone meticulous in all her endeavors, Paige spent  2+ years innovating this product perfectly so that it would stand out on the market and truly be able to help children needing this treatment. Paige had committed to helping families with children fighting blindness after her own experience with her daughter. She has structured See Worthy Patches so that a portion of proceeds go to early detection vision screening programs. She is committed to bringing awareness to the importance of all children seeing an eye doctor before age 3.

How did they come up with the idea?

When Paige’s firstborn daughter was diagnosed with severe vision impairment at age 5, she and her husband weren’t sure if it was too late even to save her daughter’s sight. In the dark weeks of testing and waiting to ensure brain tumors were not causing the vision loss, Paige swore that if her daughter was okay, she would dedicate her life to helping families who needed to fight for their children’s vision. At first, she wasn’t sure what that would look like. Shortly after she began treatment for her daughter, Paige saw an opportunity to improve that experience for all.

Eddy felt self-conscious because the current option on the market had babyish designs on them. Initially, when Paige began, it was simply to make them look better. But soon in trying to make a new brand of patches, she learned much more stood to be improved. Many children suffer from chaffing and skin irritations from the adhesive on the eye patch. Paige thought that was an issue that should be changed! By working with various materials and adhesives, she devised a better combination to eliminate skin problems. Paige also changed the shape to fit the eye socket better and created a one size fits all approach to help infants, adults, and everyone in between who needs to wear one.  All in all, transforming the product into something entirely new!

What do customers love most about the product?

Creating and owning See Worthy Patches is so rewarding. We receive emails about how we are helping people daily. So often, moms are grateful their baby’s face is no longer bleeding. When the skin is irritated from the patch, the patch cannot be worn, which means the vision issue is not being treated. This can be very stressful for parents. Knowing I have helped to eliminate that for so many is the best feeling! A lot of customers love our designs. We work hard to ensure the graphics on our patches are contemporary and fun!
